One of my former colleagues went to work for Discovery - they own Animal Planet and both are produced out of their Silver Spring, MD headquarters. Puppy Bowl was done on a lark (after all, why waste expensive programming competing with the Super Bowl?), and it was completely shocking to them to discover that it was their most-watched show ever (seriously, EVER). It's also their most popular DVD (did you know you could own Puppy Bowl for yourself for a mere $10? Knowing a good thing when they saw it, of course, they'll continue to produce it as long as the audience exists.

She is a pistol! That day they filmed she was all over the place, they had her on the set at least 80% of the time. She does some wacky stuff and got a lot of camera time.
