LOL Cats cartoons

Check out all these sweet LOLCats cartoons from Ape Man. It's a set of strips featuring hobo cats who speak in LOLCat talk. Their adventures include invisible sandwiches, jailtime, riding in boxcars, and chasing a pesky duck.

Wow, what a talent!
Yeah, Fritz the Cat! I remember. Erm, wasn't that an X-rated movie?
I like Krazy Kat, too.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 09:59 AM

Yeah I remember Fritz the Cat too. Top Cat, oh that's a cartoon not a strip.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 10:15 AM

Is Fritz the cat the one that threw the brick?

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 10:16 AM

Iz Ape *Lad*, aktually.

They feature a lot of Go, too!

I was just organizing my Laugh-Out-Loud Cats originals last night. Hope to get photos soon.

Is it just me or do the captions make no sense whatsoever?

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 10:32 AM

wow, that is really funny and cool stuff.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 10:34 AM

OMG, "PRAWNS" on the magazine title ... :D

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 10:58 AM

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 11:01 AM

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 11:19 AM

I dunno about Fritz (will google), but these cats here remind me of Hobbes the cat, from "Calvin and Hobbes"! Agree?

I dont get it.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 11:58 AM

"these cats here remind me of Hobbes the cat, from "Calvin and Hobbes"! Agree?"

Yes, and also Snoopy the cat, from Peanuts.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 12:06 PM

if you don't get the jokes, visit:

You may STILL not get it, but at least you'll know what it is you don't get.

(Personally, I can't make up my mind whether I don't find LOLcats funny because they're too sophisticatedly meta for my taste, or too dumb.)

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 12:18 PM

"LOL! It was only a matter of time..."

Actually, these cartoons are from the early 1900s.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 12:26 PM

Sweet cartoons! My favorite? #77 "I'm in ur Proost, remembrin' things past." HA!!

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 12:26 PM

Eh...not so funny.
Not even a mild chuckle.

Now let's try to forget this and move on to some cute stuff!

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 12:33 PM

cute illustrations! if you don't already, you should really illustrate a comic strip in the newspaper or something. you're very talented :)

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 12:37 PM

While I do think some of the LOLcats stuff is cute, i've been noticing kinda a sad trend. Some of the photos are getting out of hand. Some look like they are borderline abusive. I know some are cute... but putting your cat in your toilet is not, putting your cat in your blender is also not. I'm a bit worried where all of this is going to end up going.

cant bleev u guyz dont get thees
 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 01:25 PM

Ahh, old-school cartoons (or at least the look of old-school)! Love 'em!

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 01:28 PM

Good to know, Marmy. i thought they looked pretty old school.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 01:51 PM

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Laugh-Out-Loud Cats.

Hubby and I have been reading them since he started. Combining the old-timey drawing style with the latest internet memes, and clever puns, PLUS cute cats... what's not to love?

Run over to Ape Lad's, read them all, commission your own (he does other animals in addition to cats), and buy the merchandise. I proudly own a t-shirt.

(not related in any way to ApeLad or LOLCats, just love 'em too moische.)

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 01:56 PM

and check #158:

"Invisible everything?"
"No, is Kansas."

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 02:01 PM

If you read the comments on the Ape Man site, I'm pretty sure these weren't actually drawn in the early 1900s - seems pretty obviously a spoof. A beautifully drawn and very humorous spoof!

Yes, very reminiscent of Krazy Kat. Not Fritz the Cat, though ;)

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 02:10 PM

Have you all forgotten Felix the Cat? Am I that old?

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 02:43 PM

What a fantastic find! I heart creativity and cleverness.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 02:57 PM

LurkerT, I saw

"Invisible everything?"
"No, is Kansas."

and thought of RedZilla immediately. too good

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 04:12 PM

Meg (and Adam K), thanks for clueing me into the greatest cartoon strip evar!

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 05:07 PM

BumBunny, if you're old, so am I. I love Felix! We'll sit in the corner together!

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 05:30 PM

For those of you not getting it, one of the basic LOLcats sites is http://icanhascheezburger.com/

The artist is taking this kinds of pictures and captions and drawing them as old fashioned cartoons. (I know LOTS of you know this already).

I think they're funny.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 06:30 PM

Um, make that 'these'.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 06:31 PM

Yay! I saw these way back when they started on a certain other site and have been following them ever since. And now CO has spotted them! I feel so on the cutting edge.

And as to the "not-cute"-ers... go look at some of the other cartoons! In many of them the Kitteh duo looks very cute.

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 07:57 PM

These are adorable. Will check out the strips.

*ugh* people whining about their memes again. *sigh*

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 08:58 PM

Isn't it amazing how far apart in opinions people can be? Some of you found the Laughing Out Loud cats "not so funny", and I found them to be some of the most brilliant comics ever. I'd even compare the creator to Watterson or Kelly in wit and artistic talent. I spent a good chunk of my afternoon chuckling, grinning, and cackling my way through the entire set. As an old-time comic afficionado and lolcatz lover, I found them to be the perfect combination of nostalgia and humor. Thanks for posting these, Meg!

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 09:02 PM

Here here, Michelle

 |  Aug 16, 2007 at 09:29 PM

Thanks a lot everybody! I really appreciate the post and the visits.
I know my little duo isn't everybody's cuppa, but I'm thrilled that some people like them enough to buy and share and post them.
And if you don't get 'em that's fine. I still have a hard time explaining them to my wife.
And Michelle-- holy cow, thanks.
