There is NO better way to celebrate your Friday than checking out this tie-tie Bebeh Slothersons.

Oh my, what is it? A alien lifeform? First time I've seen a sloth on CO! First time I've seen a sloth that color! First time I've seen a sloth in, um, whatever it is he's in. Unbeliegable.

Ooops. Well, anyway, I adore his delighted expression in the screenshot.

See, Ruki, although I wuzzn't first, because my comment took so long to arrive, I managed to say the word "bleen" in a way that can't possible annoy any among us of the Theo persuasion (I hope)...

However, typing "possible" instead of "possibly" is definitely annoying to those of us of the useta hada kitteh/spelling nerd persuasion...

okay, I know I've already commented on this guy, but I just noticed that his box says "Sharp" right underneath his claws, which are a pretty good illustration of the word.

Okay, somebody else comment or somethin'... I'm feeling a little lazy about doin' all the comments myself. Or is it slothful I'm feelin'?

Maybe I need some puddins.

Um... sloths? Not cute. HorrifyingOverload maybe but...

A cousin-of-a-cousin of mine, whom I met maybe four times, used to have all sorts of weird pets. He was mainly interested in snakes, but he also had some other reptiles (lizards), a few exotic birds, and a "slow loris", which is basically a type of sloth. (Which prompted one of the other cousins to comment, "I wonder if there's a 'fast loris'?") Anyway, last I heard, this cousin-of-a-cousin, now all grown up, was a herpetologist at the National Zoo in Washington, DC.

Two-toes slothy...poor little guy. I learned two things in Costa Rica about sloths.

ONE: The come down out of their tree once a week. To do their "business"

TWO: They belong in trees not in boxes.

Is it just me, or does he look like a baby Yeti? I see him, in 5 years or so, as a full grown abominable snowman causing nightmares in the minds of Northern youth.

 |  Feb 16, 2007 at 08:52 PM

It looks a bit Macaulay Culkin-ish.

Despite that, it manages to be cute. I can just imagine it clinging to my neck. On second thought, examining those claws, maybe not...

Ok...these guys seriously look like something thought up in the imagination of George Lucas (Star Wars). Found another video http://gosouthamerica.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/1478/classify.html

Oh, and useta? You'll always be first with me! ;-)

Adorable!!

I said "Oh my god!" when I saw this, not because its cute, but because its scary!

Doesn't belong here! :(

This is definitely a first for me. I've never seen a sleepy baby sloth video before. Can't say it's cute or cuddly (definitely not cuddly given the claws), but it's definitely adorable in its own kinda-ugly yet kinda-sweet sort of way.

Sloth! Awesome!
I <3 these things!
Their metabolisms are so slow that they only go to the bathroom about once a month!
Moss grows on them!
Sooooooo sloooooooowww...

Vespers
 |  Feb 17, 2007 at 01:56 AM

Ok, I love sloths. They are so cute and they just move sooooooo slowly.

This one is exceptionally cute. Just the way he/she gets up and then kinda goes 'nup, I can't be bothered staying awake, I'm gunna go back to sle...*snore*'

I've always had a fascination with sloths and I don't think they're scary at all.

Em
 |  Feb 17, 2007 at 02:56 AM

This is disturbing.

Deb
 |  Feb 17, 2007 at 03:16 AM

Scary? Disturbing?

Why, of course... it's furry baby animal with a gentle expression and a prodigious yawn. And killah eye capsules. All the necessary ingredients for unimaginable horror...

Oooh... hurt myself with sarcasm there ;)

Step out of the way, Nuffinghams, and let me snuggle the lovely sloaf.

Such a tie-tie little McSlothersons! The eye capsules are great, but when he rolled over and you could see his belleh--I wanted to snorgle heems!

I don't wanna say he's ugly, but have you ever heard the saying, "He's so ugly, he's cute?" Seems to sorta fit here. . .

Vespers said: I wouldn't want to meet an Anger though. Or an Envy.

Yeah, those guys wouldn't likely fit into the "Seven Lively Cutes" category.

When I read how ssslllloooowwww these guys are, I realized "Hey, there IS something lazier than me!" Probably explains why my comment was so ssslllloooowwww to post last night, too.

MC2 -- thanks. :)

That is definitely the most UN-CUTE thing I have ever seen. This post is starting the official petition to get the baby sloth OFF the start page of CO.

Elyse
 |  Feb 17, 2007 at 05:23 AM

I submitted this little darling. at first, I thought. hmmm...somewhat ugly? But the more I watch it the more I smile. It's just a little baby and he cannot help what he looks like!
We should all appreciate the uniqueness of creatures that are not your standard "cute".

"Ehn."

useta said - "my comment took so long to arrive," Under a pic of a sloth? Nooooo.

Vespers - Good one. You be proud. I'll be jealous.

I love me some kittehs. And fat little puppies who love everybody make me swoon. But this little guy actually brought me to tears with the cuteness. There's a french word-phrase that the NE Francophones still use "jolie-laid" which literally means 'pretty-ugly'. It makes perfect sense if you've seen Ron Perlman & the gigantic actor I have an equally huge crush on, John Desantis. They & this little guy have miles of character & I'll take that over bimbo/himbo cuteness every day. So there!

Oh that's a video of a whole day in the life of the baby sloth, done in time-lapse photography. ;-)

Woah, the 'Nuffs are out in force today. I've always thought sloths were adorable and this tie-tie baby just makes my heart melt.

Where's the puddin'?

Lillith
 |  Feb 17, 2007 at 06:17 AM

To be honest that is the most disgusting thing I've seen in a while. I don't find the appeal in eye capsules. But the overall "eh!"-ness is cute. I guess.

Livbert
 |  Feb 17, 2007 at 06:18 AM

Well, i think he is totally adorable! When he is looking up out of the box, i just want to pick him up and snuggle him.

(not sure if it's a him or her...so i just guessed) :)

I love sloths!!! This is perhaps the CUTEST VIDEO on this website. Elyse, haven't you learned by now that baby ANYTHING is cute? Quit hating so much.

Haha, hi, Ashlee!

The yawning and nawming are the BEST!

He's quite simply exTREMEly cute!

Lauri

I realisiedd it was a video from the comments, cats must be envious of the sloths ability to nap, thirty seconds moving in a box requires a nap to recover.

A big round of slothly applause for "Edward Slotherhands", pyrit!

ugly?!?!scary?!?!horrifying?!?!
what has gotten into you people?!!!!?! sloths are SOOO cute!! i lurve when u see them hug people sorta and their claws don't even scratch them, and they just hang there like a monkey.
but now i feel bad because my 7-toed kitty was sitting on my lap and just looked up at me and glared when i said that sloths were among the most anerable fuzzy humans* in the world!

and pyrit- he just doesn't seem to have the hair down...

*fuzzy humans-- they aren't animals or beasts. they're just fuzzy humans that evolved differently than us and forgot (or don't think we deserve the privilege of listening to them) how to talk. obviously.

Teho, we noticed.

Vespers, hee.

And Elyse? It's Meg's website. She gets to post what she wants. If you don't think it's cute, come back again another time. There will be sure to be something that fits your taste.

Rosie, you stole the words out of my mouth ("ugly?!?!scary?!?!horrifying?!?!
what has gotten into you people?!!!!?! sloths are SOOO cute!!") Oh well, more sloths for me! I love your theory of fuzzy humans.

That's how I am in the morning...oh, who am I kidding, that's me all day. I want to be reincarnated as a sloth. Except for that whole having your habitat destroyed thing, that'd be the life.

I wonder if they're cuddly, like if they'd fall asleep in your arms...they'd probably climb you like a tree and fall asleep around your neck.

BTW, I checked the Unusual Animal archives and this isn't the first sloth entry- there was one on 2/3/06, with the adult slots sticking their head out of the box.

Last year, my anatomy class had to do presentations and one group picked the sloth as their topic.

And they only poop once a week, or once a month? (Gets in line to babysit.) What an easy gig for the Mommy sloth. Checks calendar, "Oh it's a new month, time to change your diaper."

pyrit

Yes, baby anythings are cute.
But even adult sloths are adorable.
