Time to 'barf rainbows', People

Delightful sender-inner Caitlin S. "Barfed a rainbow" when she saw this pic. That commentary is just too good not to pass on.

Oh gosh, TheIdleReceptionist, that, and this picture, remind me SOOOO much of something I saw once when my middle school took a trip to the canal...

As we were walking along the path, a HUGE family of geese were crossing it ahead of us, into the water. Like these duckies, the babies were in single file. One parent was waiting for them in the water, and the other was standing to the side, watching as the line of goslings passed, OBVIOUSLY counting heads. It was JUST like elementary school, and the final thing that made it even more so: after the line finished passing the head-counting adult, said adult looked sharply back the way they had come... and there was one last straggler, running and flapping to keep up. I swear to gods it was ME in goose form!

So, in conclusion:
EEEEEEEEEEEEEE *implodes*

Oh! I love baby ducks! I go to the State Fair here EVERY year, for two things:
1) funnel cakes, and
2) holding the baby ducks!

They have chicks, too, but ducklings are cuter and fuzzier. They fall asleep in your hand. awwwww

Jes
 |  Mar 27, 2006 at 12:08 PM

Yes, one of the wee ducklings is different!

Maybe he has a different ducky daddy? I know dogs and cats can have different baby daddies for one litter...dunno 'bout dux.

And "barfing a rainbow" is perhaps the funniest thing I've read all day!!!!

Theo, many times hath the Comet song been sung when a Skwerl was in skool.

Anybody's, Comet is a pale green powdered abrasive cleanser. It smells lovely and is good for cleaning sinks and tile, but it tastes nacky.

I haven't heard from Meg, Anybody's, but you may have been a little too... prolific. Remember "brevity is beauty?"

Must get back to work now.

Theo, you made me laugh so loud I scared my cat. (sorry kitty!)

You are a good man, my friend. Quack.

OK... here's "prolific" --

"Brevity is beauty" -- when it comes to commenting in a public forum, less is more. Keep it short and sweet. Like I said, this ain't AIM here.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled duckles.

Theo
 |  Mar 27, 2006 at 01:54 PM

Oh no - Theo told you not to f*** around, as I recall.

And what he said: Brevity is not only beautyful, 'tis the soul of wit.

Think about that for a while....

E. Collison

Anybody's -- she knew what I meant by "prolific." You may be 12, but I'm 35 and most of the folks here are closer to my age. In fact, the folks doing most of the commenting here are word-people to start with.

People, people, lets just leave Anybody's alone O_O Everyone makes mistakes, as long as they apologized and doesn't do it again, then why not forgive and forget? ^_^

Hi Anybody's,

A friendly tip:

-comment less
-enjoy the cute pictures and stick to commenting on those
-don't react argumentatively to other posters, even if they seem to be insulting you

You will be in everybody's good books. Including Theo's.

I'm willing to give you a fair shot, Anybody's, however, you should keep in mind the things that Theo told you about posting politely and behaving in an grown-up manner.

If you've apologized, then you do not have to keep apologizing.

May I give you a few more friendly tips? I mean these in good will. I am not saying that you've broken all of these "rules." These are just helpful things to know when commenting on any website.

1. Please take the time to look up unfamiliar words, rather than demanding that other people explain. If you have time to be goofing off here (and let's face it, we're *all* goofing off), then you have time to do a little research.

2. Please remember that the purpose of Cute Overload is to comment on the cute photos. One or two comments per thread is sufficient. CO isn't intended to be a chat forum, and you needn't respond to everyone. Your post in the "You're jumping on the poll options" thread is exactly the right kind of thing to post.

3. Serious insults are not welcome at any time. Joking insults should probably wait until you've been around a while and have established yourself as a regular poster.

4. Have fun and treat others the way you'd want them to treat you.

Anybody's, you need to show some respect and consideration for other people, which is exactly what Auntie Mame was talking about, in a nutshell.

If you do this, you will be welcome here.

E. Collison
 |  Mar 27, 2006 at 03:17 PM

See, Anybody's, if you treat people respectfully, *you* will be respected.

All for now...

*ahem* anyhoo, is this true: "I know dogs and cats can have different baby daddies for one litter"

????????????????

I have never heard that, and I'm beginning to REALLY feel like I live under a rock. And really, who knew dogs and cats were so promiscuous?!

Aww... (proud moment)

I took this picture, and Caitlyn suggested it be submitted. I'm glad she also submitted it, because the rainbow-barfing comment likely took this submission over the top.

Thanks, Caity! *smooch*

(For the record, this litter - "batch?" - of ducklings numbered 14-strong at hatching. And to preserve the cuteness factor, I won't tell you how many are still waddling.)
