Is this what "toe-hawk" is? I'd never heard of that until now...

Hairy toes is common among breeds of cats that originate in northern climates - protects their delicate paws from the snow.

And it's darn cute.

My new boy Max rocks the toe-hawk on all four paws, baby! :) And he sports a fine orange beard and floofy cataloons. :)

Some cats won't let you get near their 'hawks. You just gotta let them grow wild.

we call that our cat's toe-fur. hers is just as long but she hates having it cut.

My first cat Gus had long toe-fur, and he liked to be up high, so of course one day he fell down. Broke a bone in his hand. The vet put a cast on him. Gus got the cast off before he was even ready to go home. So the vet put another one on him. Gus got that one off too, within a half hour. Finally he came home with a cast up around the bend of his elbow, well into his armpit. Didn't get that cast off, but he kept trying, wore away the fur at the top of the cast, so we had to put an Elizabethan collar on him, poor love. All for one teeny broken bone in the middle of his hand

Actually the cats DO slip and slide everywhere. :p It's kind of funny actually, because I have one very athletic cat, and the other with the toehawks will sometimes try to imitate the other, but without much success, because of how little traction he gets with the toehawks.

Our Dot has long toe fur. We call it her "tufts of fluff." She was a stray, so we don't know her lineage for sure but our vet said she's probably at least half Maine coon. She is three times larger than any of our other cats. She also has the world's biggest, sweetest grin...

Juniper I feel the same way you do. I would nom those pink beans no matter how stinky they may be! I can't resist me some kitteh piggeh toes!

I have a Maine Coon and she totally has the toe 'hawks! I see no need to trim them, but I totally indulge in nomming them from time to time, and she lets me! However, she does not enjoy the toe 'hawk fur being tickled. My husband says it is mean... but it is just sticking out there!

Killer Corgi's toes have wonderful long fur, but then she goes outside and yeaeaeaeaccch-I don't want to touch THEM at all. Nosireebob.
That one time I bathed her was fun, though-heheheheh. Yeah it tickles like crazy apparently. Oh, well, once was enough I guess.

Among my kinfolk, those are known as "twinklies."

This is my first comment ever ever on any site. But I had to break my silence to to say that we call those "speed tufts" on our Persian and Himalayan (because it makes them look like they're going fast). And we were very upset when the groomer trimmed them off once. It took a long time for them to grow back, and we're so glad they did. Nothing cuter than little pink paw pads with speed tufts.
