Headless penguin continues to thrive at Japanese Zoo
He still manages to stay pretty plump despite his lack of a noodle.

He must be some sort of Antarctic version of that weird shape-shifting owl.
Looks like an interesting (warm and comfy) throw pillow.
Note to self:
Not all whales eat krill. Look before poking head into ice opening.
OMG
Damn you global warming! Now the penguins don't have heads! Heehehehehhe
If you are a fan of avian fiction, as I am, then I am sure you are familiar with the tale that finishes "...and if you venture abroad on dark, moonless, nights, then take care that you are not found by...the Headless Penguin of Fleecy Hollow!"
This is how penguin mothers scare their children to bed, you know.
Okay...I just spent the last 5 minutes debating with myself whether or not a baby pen-gehn could exist without a head or not. Apparently I need MORE vacation time!
I agree with WR...looks like a very comfy pillow!
i don't know whether to be moritified from the traumatic no-head-ness, or mortified from the eyeball-melting fluffy cuteness.
WHAT HAPPENED? WHERE IS HIS HEAD?
[Hang on, I'm sure I've got a spare somewhere in one of these drawers... - Ed.]
For that matter, we can't know for sure whether Pengy has another wing or a second foot...
Looks like the tock side of a one-legged wolf to me.
LOL, Teej!
[Heh, maybe we should re-run this one, next Halloween... - Ed.]
It's creepy and kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
It's all together ooky...
Cousin Itt!
Still waiting for that one tired old inevitable comment... but don't get me wrong, I won't be disappointed if it never shows up...
LOL- I, too, spent way too much time trying to figure out if he truly was a headless pengy... that is until I clicked on the link and read the FLIKR comments to the photo... turns out he's just a very shy fluffy pillow and kept hiding from the paparazi. whew. I can rest easy now. : )
Steppy wants to snuggle the headless pengy. Steppy a bit camera shy herself.
This is SO disturbing.
@BouvieGal: don't you mean Cousin Peg(uin)?
*Refrains from making Teho's expected comment* ;->
I'm more curious as to what Teho is expecting as opposed to where da head went.
Let's face it, those Penguin French Revolution re-enacters are REALLY committed to their work.
That penguin is now fully qualified to be a politician
[Hear hear... hey, I think I figured out where its head is! - Ed.]
@victoreia--Yes, LOL! Cousin PenguITT!
Lerrinus & Berthaservant: please discuss quietly amongst yourselves.
Or between. Betwixt?
Because we can tell by the pixels, ya know...
AuntieM, go play in the corner with Lerri and BServ.
Okay. Sorry...
*shuffles to the corner*
Would it help if I said I thought it was fuzzy 'tocks at first, before I scrolled far enough down to see the feets?
...'shopped?
I lived in Japan a few years ago, and have been to that zoo. I just wanted to let everyone know that about twice a day, they have a penguin parade at that zoo. Yes, a PENGUIN PARADE, where all the emperor penguins go take a stroll through the zoo and everyone gets out their cameras and goes "awww, kawaii!" and the penguins jump around in the snow (if it's December, at least. Which is when I went). It is mind blowing.

AuntieMame, Lerrinus, Berthaservant -- you may pelt Lu with puddings. They're in the mini-fridge under my desk. (Leave the beers alone, please.)
Where is he hiding his head?
~Dan
Eskimo bowling pin?
Nerf bowling, maybe.
I thought it was a polar bear 'tocks before I scrolled down...
In the end, isn't *everything* 'tocks?
Oh mannnnn, and I just bought a hat for that penguin for Christmas! Dang!!
[Not a problem. There's this snail I know, see... - Ed.]
"In the end, isn't *everything* 'tocks?"
BWAH!
You'll have to research it, Teho, to see if you can get to the bottom of it.
*wonders what would happen if you drop a Mentos in a bottle of beer...*
maybe he needs a head-cozy .. similar to snail-cozy awhile back.. to tempt his head out of hiding?
He's just nostalgic for his pre-hatched state... isn't he just perfectly oval?!
And THEN I notice the hovertext. Great minds? Twisted minds? You pick.
Great minds twist alike?
Oh man, when I was in Tokyo I was only treated to a pelican parade, no headless-penguin parades. Must have picked the wrong zoo.
This is going to sound so wrong, but even their undead penguins are cuter than ours!
I actually believed it for a bit--after all, I'm well familiar with the festival celebrating Mike the Headless Chicken (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_the_Headless_Chicken ), who actually lived for 18 months WITHOUT A HEAD.
SO HAPPY that didn't happen to this fuzzy fellow!
[Yeah, I think Meg's making a nod to ol' Mike, since he couldn't... - Ed.]
[...not THAT Mike. - Ed.]
That is just ridiculous. Some Japanese anime fan probably decided to construct a headless plush that is to be some new fuzzy cute thing on a dvd somewhere with lots of bid breasted women. Maybe it will come to the US?? I would totally buy that.
"bid breasted women"... well I'm *trying* to picture that, I really am...
OT, but is anyone else here as EXCITED as I am to open my Cute Overload desk calendar the day after tomorrow????
It's the economy, man.
Even the pengies can't get a head.
Nice lols, everyone!
The japanese win again!
Aww, it's so much fun here when everyone plays nice....*still traumatized by all the bird and kitteh nuffs*
