I did my civic duty!
Bleep?
Again I say - the Obama's will not choose their dog. their dog will choose them!
[Yes -- I do like how that works... - Ed.]
WHITE HOUSE CATS! WHITE HOUSE CATS! WHITE HOUSE CATS!
Sorry, got a little over enthusiastic there. :-)
The said today that the kids want a Labradoole. So I guess rescue is not in the cards.
I wanna vote for more than one option. A rescute dog and a kitteh...
@DKN
What you said.
The dog will choose.
/rescue, not puppy mill
[Well *duh*. And those aren't the only two options, y'know. - Ed.]
Random Mixed Puppy! ^_^
Although if I could have, I would hit "Other" for RABBITS. Imagine those in the lawn, eh? ^_^
A mutt! Because the Obama family is not humble enough to serve a cat in the manner to which all cats are entitled.
:3
[*pshh*! Would you describe ME as "humble"? It's true our oldest cat dislikes our youngest cat, but aside than that, they're total lovebumbles. Which is to say, they're not exactly dissatisfied with the level of service rendered in this establishment. In fact, here's the troublesome youngster now -- hi Rikki! - Ed.]
They could still get a labradoodle from a rescue! I vote for that :D
I would also like to see the pit bull's image softened by being the First Puppy.
Do you know how easy it would be to lose a cat in the white house?
Talk about misappropriation of funds - 100 secret service agents looking under beds for Fluffy the Disappearing Kitteh.
Definitely a cat, the White House needs a Chief Mouser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_Mouser_to_the_Cabinet_Office )
I voted mutt, but I love the expression on the terriers.
The Obamas have already announced that they plan to adopt a shelter dog. I voted for labradoodle because one of the daughters is allergic.
This here says they are adopting a hypoallergenic GOLDENdoodle. :-O
http://www.stuff.co.nz/4752013a26642.html
Also, apparently Bush has TWO TERRIERS. Now who's paling around?
Ah, scratch that, that's just what Malia wants, not official :-)
Yes We Can
...get a rescue pup.
But please get a kitteh too? None escapes the power of teh mew!
It MUST be a rescue mutt named "Baroo Obama" >:/
I say a shelter mutt, because the Obamas getting one would encourage the nation by example. The benefit to shelter animals would be amazing.
I'm for the Kittehs.
But the mutt would be acceptable. Or the corgi. Or the chocolate lab.
See, peeps...that's why we have a two-party system! Too many choices bad for democracy!!!
I voted for mutt, but I was hoping dachshund was on there. From the pound, of course; but I think the pound occasionally have purebreds. if not, a dachsie-something-else (or a few something-elses) mix would be fine.
rescue pup AND rescue kitteh!
rescue pup AND rescue kitteh!
How else to ensure the Prez-elect will de-stress? Romp w/ the First Pup, then the First Kitteh can purrrr him to sleep!
I previously heard (here?) that he promised to get a rescue/shelter dog.
I voted pit bull because at one time it was considered the American dog. The dog in the "Our Gang Comedies" was a Pit. It was at one time considered a children's dog.
I'm not nuffin', I just feel bad for the pressure on the kids. I read that Chelsea Clinton always wanted a Golden retriever, but the advisors said it was an elitist breed. I always thought it was the all-American doggy.
Just let 'em get whatever shelter or purebred fluffball they want!
(Personally, I would have a Presidential Potbellied Peeg)
A tux cat.
If not a rescue pup, then a corgi for sure, despite its elitist connotations (Queen Elizabeth).
I agree that there's no reason why they can't get a kitten too. The Clintons had a cat.
OUCH it was hard deciding between rescued goggie and kitteh! I was QUITE torn! Picked rescued of course, tho if they could rescue a goggie AND a kitteh, that would be MUCH bettah!!
OH MY GOURD!!! I'm so torn! My first inclination is MUTT MUTT MUTT! But hot damn, corgis are just too cute... TOO CUTE!!!
There are plenty of purebreds in shelters and breed rescues. Some of them are even puppies too! So I'm sure the Obamas will find just the perfect puppy for their little girls at a shelter.
And while they're at it, maybe they'll take a kitten to the White House too. Or a lizard XD
I understand that this is an exciting question and maybe people are a little too hopped up on hope to concentrate, but it's been said, several times, in comments to this post and the other First Puppy post earlier, that THE OBAMAS HAVE SAID THEY WILL DEFINITELY ADOPT A SHELTER DOG.
Everyone can calm down about that!
I think a labradoodle or other breed ending in oodle would be a good choice for energy, intelligence, amiability and not making the allergic kid too uncomfortable. I'm sure there's a nice one in a shelter somewhere!
I agree with those who said both a rescued doggy and a kitteh. I voted for kitteh, though. There haven't been enough kitties in the White House!! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/73/Socks_cat_1.JPG
The White House could be like our Parliament Hill!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliamentary_cats
If the Obama's daughter is allergic to dogs they definitely need to check with an allergist before choosing a pet because it's not always as simple as selecting a particular breed. In fact, at one time in my life I was deathly allergic to both cats and dogs, although I now have six cats without any reaction whatsoever because it's possible to outgrow an allergy. However, I had always heard that certain breeds of dogs, like schnauzers and poodles for instance, were non-allergic, yet my neighbor's lovely little poodle made me utterly miserable.
Shaz, thanks for that link to the Parliament Hill cats. There had been a story on the cats and their elderly caretaker on Animal Planet and it was absolutely enchanting.
Doesn't matter what breed, as long as it has a lot of love and comfort to share,'cause those girls will not have their parents around everytime they need them.
as long as the puppeh is a rescue puppeh, he or she will be the best puppeh for the first family!
i love Chocolate Labs, i think they're sooo adorable, & Obama would love their friendly-nesss :]
That is Reeeeeeaallllly un-P.C guys.....

Chloe and Fancy, the adoptable mixed breed puppy sisters!!!
They will adopt a rescue dog. I hope they will choose a mutt, even if purebreeds are available.
http://www.obamafamilydog.com/
Isabelle, what you said is absolutely true. I wish I had your sensitivity!
The choices are actually very limited. The reason they don't have a dog already is that one of the girls is allergic to pet dander. So the First Puppy will be something with hair, not fur-- a Schnauzer, a poodle, a Bichon Frise, etc. My guess is that it will be a rescue Schnauzer.
Although I'd love to see a First Puttins in the White House, I loves puppehs too! Adopt a shelter pet...your new best friend is waiting!
Rescute!
Rescute!
Rescute!
I am so sad that PUGS were not on the list. This is an abomination!
It would be wonderful if they rescued a dog from a local shelter.....
You have a duplicate on your poll... "Mutt" and "labradoodle" amount to the same thing. It's a mixed-breed dog.
I would have said a beagle - very playful, great with energetic kids, and too freakin' cute for words - but I didn't know about the dander allergy.
So my vote is Scoodle:
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/scoodle.htm
I am always amazed at the number of purebred dogs and puppies that show up at the shelter where I am a dog walker. Just recently a family brought in a Goldendoodle that they had shipped across the country and paid $1600.00 for-after the first weekend with the poor little guy they decided they were not interested and dropped him off at the shelter. The good thing is he got a GREAT home-I'm sure the Obamas can find whatever they are looking for at their local shelter.
The girls need one of each! Pronto! The White House is big enough.
Okay, but that wawa bebeh in pink sweateuw is redonkulously prosh.
Write-in vote for rescued Greyhounds!
