Rule of Cuteness #40! A lil' bulging gut is cute

Now, please, People, don't extrapolate this rule to any large guts. I'm talking about a Rule of Cuteness for SMALL baby tummies here. Not your husband's Miller High Life-fueled spare tire.

Really?? All beer-bellied guys rejoice!

Er, not that I fall into that category. I'm all about the cute, spotted tailio.

That's what we in the know call a "Prairie Pouch".

 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 06:24 AM

I refer to that as a 'watermelon' belly. if you painted him green with lighter green strips it would look like a watermelon, with a head and legs.

Now isn't that just like a kid? His belly is bulging full and he's begging for Mom's bite. And, like any loving mother, she'll probably give it to him too. ;x

 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 07:17 AM

actually folks, like puppies, the bulging tum is most likely the result of ascrids (round worms) sorry to be factual.

cowdoctor
 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 07:24 AM

Dear cowdoctor, ascrids be darned, it is cute! Um, are ascrid worms maybe not so bad? Do all gophers have them? Please tell me they aren't anything awful. Lies are OK. Thanks...

 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 07:30 AM

roundworms are very common in young mammles they are transmitted from momma transplacentally in response to pregnancy hormones. as the critter matures it's own immune system will generally clear them. it's the reason you take your young puppies and kittens to the vet to be vax. and dewormed

Hm, had this look going when trying to dress in a t-shirt and jeans this a.m. Managed to disguise the visible-but-not-very-big bulges ... and now I find out I didn't have to because they're cute. Assuming this applies to humans, too. Which it does. Right? Please?

 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 07:36 AM

Lurker
 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 07:44 AM

Doesn't this also fall under the rule about "a thing, accompanied by a smaller version of that thing"?

Sara
 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 08:25 AM

Thank you cowdoctor, now I know why puppies and kittens are so susceptible and almost always have them.

So, no, the worms aren't cute but the tummmy is!

Katrina
 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 08:44 AM

Kinda hard to be dramatic with a paunch like that, eh? :D

Wouldn't mind a COXCU of the paw-to-paw action there, too. "Put your little hand in mine..."

I wish the "gut rule" applied to humans....I'd be the cutest thing going! ;)

 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 09:10 AM

hmmmm. This new rule is suspiciously similar to #38 re: curved, plump bellehs...

 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 09:20 AM

Chubby tummys are more fun to poke ;)

Can I just say the real cuteness is that WE HAVE PROOF THAT PRAIRIE DOGS HAVE DANCE LESSONS!!!!

Thank you. I said it.

CUTE! I love chubby bellehs...even my hubby's belleh which I call my personal "porta-pillow", it comes in handy when I need a nap.

My mother HATES prarie dogs (some genius in my hometown decided to relocate them all to an empty field across the street from two schools and they overran her playground to the point where it was declared a biohazard and the school had to be closed until the school board could figure out where to relocate them again in the face of all the PETA people screaming that they were traumatizing the poor animals by moving them a second time), HATES them like no other. And even she squealed over this picture.

The tiny tummeh triumphs!

I have to disagree with Meg on this one--poochy tummies on adult humans can be cute too!

 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 12:06 PM

Am I the only one who noticed the cuteness quotient of mama's fur-pants gutulence?

...okay, back to lion-cam.

isn't rule #40 basically the same as rule #38?

Yeah, alcohol sucks. And so do people who drink it!

jmuhj
 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 01:38 PM

Why has no one mentioned the neck and arm rolls on the mom? ... And let's not neglect the teeny tiny ears!

"Rule of Cuteness #40! A lil' bulging gut is cute"

That's what I keep trying to tell the ladies! That, and that I really don't have round worms

TheBladeRoden
 |  Jun 13, 2008 at 02:31 PM

I think I see a subtle difference between rule #38 and rule #40 - bulging as opposed to curving maybe? Two different kinds of plump, both soft and fluffy and waiting for my nose to be buried in them. This little guy's tummy poops right out of his body, totally bulging, as opposed to the perfect curve of kitty #38's belleh.

Anyone?

WHOA, jmuhj...just a little bit holier-than-thou today are we?

I have a sister who is JUST starting to be a "recovering alcoholic"...this after "bottoming out" THREE times. Bottoming out=basically losing all faculties and needing to go to the hospital because of it. The third time this happened we thought we were going to lose her because she had done so much damage to herself that they had to put her in a drug-induced coma for two weeks...and she told them that if it didn't heal her enough to have her breathe on her own to go on ahead and pull the plug. This happened just after my 29th birthday and just two months before her 50th. This happened five years ago, but she's been sober just under a year now, and now has Alcohol-related Dementia. Yes, she did do this to herself, and I really don't have full knowledge WHY she became an alcoholic (only she does), but I love her to pieces and I'll be DAMNED if anybody gets in my face and gets all high'n'mighty about people sucking just because of his or her choice of vice.

To this day, though, I'm STILL surprised she's alive, despite liquefying her liver, and NEVER driving drunk. Never!

The Dementia thing was just found out yesterday.

cowdoctor: My tummy bulges a little, does that mean I have roundworms? ;)

My lab-mate was doing virus experiments in prairie dogs and felt bad about making them sick, she complained that I was torturing her by sending her cute photos of PDs. Debating whether or not to send this one, she's gonna kill me...
