Finally, a zoo that understands the evil power of otters

People, the Minnesota Zoo gets it. Finally a reputable establishment that understands the evil, evil powers that otters have over just about every other living creature! They simply cannot be stopped.

Otters are totally evil! I saw a duck land in an otter enclosure at the Zoo, and the whole lot of them ganged up and took it down - very quickly.

Sea Otters are the kelp forest rangers of the oceans! If you think they're cute regularly, just imagine them in tiny cloaks with tiny bows and arrows to defend the forests from the encroaching threat of sea urchins. Aaaieee~
Seriously, otters use tools with great precision and discretion, have dedicated life long relationships with each other, AND are cuter than puppies kittens and bunnies combined. I have NO idea why they haven't managed to take over the earth yet.

Hmmm.....seems to me that maybe someone at the Minnesota zoo is a CO fan??

Teho??

Yep, this otter clip is part of a promotion for a new exhibit area the MN Zoo has been preparing, "Russia's Grizzly Coast". Officially opens this coming Saturday.

One day otters will rule the world, while kittens and puppies bow in deference!

They'll be soaked to the skin, but with just a rub-a-dub, they're all fluffy again.

Insane.

I was reading through the comments and saw MY name on one and I thought, "Wait a minute -- I don't live in Minnesota!" Then I realized, my name has been usurped by a youngster that hasn't even been around for as long as I've been a Kari!

But on the subject of otters: They're OTTER-LICIOUS!!!

Kari

That sounded really trollish. I'm sowwy.

I don't think they have to worry about their backs too much. I mean they TAKE ON CROCODILES for goodness sake:

Otters are extremely cute AND intelligent enough to use their cutenes for evil... however, have you ever visited otters at a zoo? They are extremely stinky! Ack! I'd say the stinkiness balances out the cuteness and so would prevent them from TOTAL world domination (though not from dominating a country or continent or two).

I went to the Dallas World Aquarium to visit a friend who loved otters and wanted very badly to see the ones they had there. As we found our way over to the exhibit, we saw a father shake his head and say, "That's not very family friendly. Not family friendly at all."

We got to the exhibit, and (as was Jaggy's experience), saw an otter tearing a poor duck to bits! Yes, it was Nature in all of its glory, but that one traumatized a few kids. I will never think of otters the same way again.

I!

Meg, Meg, Meg-- when will you ever learn? It's not otters who are evil...

it's SQUIRRELS! THEY'RE EVIL! EVIL, I TELL YOU!

Aren't otters just sea-squirrels after all? Or maybe squirrels are just land-otters. :)

Reminds me of that South Park episode where Cartman freezes himself so he won't have to wait for the Nintendo Wii's release. He ends up in a distant future filled with warring atheist groups, one of which is made up of fiendish sea otters.

One Skunk Todd:"Aren't otters just sea-squirrels after all? Or maybe squirrels are just land-otters. :)"

No they are Sea-Ferrets... being from the Mustelid family.

Kittehs are cute and catch and eat birds and fish, puppies are cute and can catch and eat a lot of things. (Had a spaniel as a kid that brought in PART of a baby duck. eww.)

So I don't really see how devouring a duck is somehow a minus for an otter, but not for more domesticated carnivores.

If you love otters, check out http://www.vanaqua.org/ottercam/

The Vancouver Aquarium in Vancouver, Canada has a 24 hour live web cam of their totally cute otters.
By the way, when it looks like they're preening themselves, they're fluffing out their fur to create air...it talks about it on the website. Too adorable.

Theo, maybe someone could write a "bleenizer," like the old Swedish Chef "bork-bork-bork-izers."

And then, maybe it could be used for something like this:

Now I just heard an ad on the radio, too, some guy leaving a pet shop or something apologizing to the animals for leaving them to see the cuties!
