Listed below are links to weblogs that reference I've been waiting for the GD bus all day:
« [Squeals and snorts of delight] | Home | Welcome to Interspeche Snorglathon '08! »
OMG! I haven't even had my coffee yet! This is too too moische.
It's like a stuffed animal fairyland in heaven or somfing. It. just. cant. be. real.
OK now there's a story I'd like to see more of - seriously!
What kind of monkeeeee is that? Is it an ape?
That's quite a picture!
O_O
I DO want to know how that photo got taken!
It looks like the wallaby is its purse. Too cute. We definitely need the story to this one!
I've never hallucinated, but that's pretty much what I'd expect to see if I did! :-)
REALLY?!
Okay, what?
Ermine_V.: looks like some sort of gibbon (small ape).
I don't think they normally use wallabies as currency, though.
This picture is the start of a joke.
"An ape with a wallabi under its arm is waiting for the bus, when the bus pulls up and the driver says ..."
The cap-shon ees geeeenious. On what planet is this, BTW?
Is this even real? I'll second the above comment:
"I've never hallucinated, but that's pretty much what I'd expect to see if I did!"
GD? Well let's just hope you meant gosh darn. You kiss your mother with that mouth?
O
M
G
lol!!
Wallaby, mines a pint thanks.
Seriously - how did this happen? I can't stop looking at it!!
I not awake enough to come up with a Gibbon when I first posted. Now, I'm still not sure I'm awake enough to grasp this!
What an interesting pair!
That's so not fair!!! I rode this bus this a.m. and all I had was a stupid paper ticket to pay with... Where do I have to go to be able to pay with a squirmy Wallabi????
Gibbon went out the night before on a blind date, and woke up with a wallaby in his arms, and now they're both late for work. Go figure!
Funky gibbon!!
LOL @ 3Cat!!!! HAAAAA!!
I just can't stop laughing @ this pic...forget the capshons...this Gibbon's look is HILARIOUS! He reminds me of a stoic uncle.
Wow! Just wow!
This is one of the best caption/pic combos ever. I know people who ARE that ape, being old and crotchety and saying things like "GD".
You didn't tell me you were bringing your wallaby?! I didn't bring my wallaby! You always do that - you say you won't bring your wallaby and then you bring your wallaby. Now, I'm wallaby-less and you... with a wallaby. Forget it, I'm going home.
Did anyone else think the monkeh looks exactly like those old stuffed monkeys with the velcro on their hands & feet? Or a muppet...seriously, the wallaby looks real enough...but I've never seen a Gibbon with arms & legs that long....
WTF?! In a good way!!
Gibbon: "Have you met my baby wallaby? Do you want to pet him? Are you overloading with teh cute yet? Oh, bus is here."
That's right ThreeCatNight, if this waiting for the bus ain't part of a walk of shame, I don't what is.
I-- I-- What????
Where's the story behind this interspecies cavorting! I must know the story!
Well, the wallaby's packed, I'm ready to go...I'm sitting here outside yur door .... I hate to wake u up to say gibbye .....
LOL.
"So kiss me and snorgle me,
"Tell me that my post's bleen-free..."
Great site, the pictures definitely put a smile on my face.
--cue chilling music, camera zooms in on Metz at the computer loffin the cute, reading the comments, laffin away at the hilarity and clever minds...
then BAM outta nowherez another killah earworm attacks--
Metz never stood a chance.--and fade to black
"So kiss me and snorgle me,
"Tell me that my post's bleen-free..."
These comments are as hilarious as the picture!!
I am glad I finished my coffee or I would be needing a new laptop!!
Does anyone know what the type of wood is that the bench is made of?? It is gorgeous and I would love to have some.
Too funny!
You peeps crack me up.
[high-fives Birdcage]
The GD postage just went up too. At least I don't pay in rodents!
I think Mr. Gibbon is taking the pet wallaby either to the vet or the wallaby park to play.
Since the wallaby is so well behaved, it is not required to be in a pet carrier to ride the bus.
Or MAYBE it's a Service Wallaby.
Hey now! Don't make me get out the Afterbleen Delight!
[I'm glad to see you're finally getting in touch with your Inner Evil... - Ed.]
Have mercy! I've been waiting for the bus all day!
(That could almost BE Billy Gibbon on that park bench.)
Gibbon thoughts, wallaby thoughts, gibbon thoughts, wallaby thoughts, wouldn't you just love to know what they both are thinking? Yes, that surely is beautiful wood. Where in the world did Carmen SanDiego take this picture?
Picture = Cute
Caption = not so much...
@Winni-Pig: This bench was crafted from the bark of a Truffula tree; for more info, contact the Once-ler via his whisper-ma-phone.
*blink blink... blink*
Huh?
Trin- I want a service walaby!
Angela- We could share it if I got one. I think along with mister monkeyface there'd be a lot of snorgle to go around!
Billy Gibbon!(snort!)
Not enough beard, though.
Yep. Some of the best comments evah! It surely stands for Gosh Darn unless this is, as someone said, an OLD gibbon. My grandmother was such a lady. Spoke with a broad A (not a reference to her posterior), but when she was 97 and the shelter puppies came to the "home", when her turn holding the puppy was over and they handed it to the next old lady, my grandmother looked at her and said, You give me back my GD (not "gosh darn") puppy!" Gosh Darn!
[I was thinking maybe "Great Dane" or... well, let's just say I'm a creative smartass - Ed.]
"I can't believe they raised bus fare to one squirmy wallaby."
AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Lord Meg, you crack me up.....
;D
LOL! no fair! i pay $60 for my monthly bus pass and i don't get a wallaby (or any other fuzzy creature) with it
Trippy!!! it even looks like the legs are crossed, and he really is sitting there Harrumphing LOL!!!
gd this and that, who cares.
and I have a q about Bleen, all I get in the glossary is "..." and I get that Theo hates it... and other's throw it out every other post here.
WHAT IS BLEEN? Is it like a squeal? Sounds more like a bodypart lol.
[No no, you're probably thinking of "spleen", heh... - Ed.]
Ok, so this post is seriously CUTE, made me smile.
"...The monkey chewed tobacco on the street-car line,
The line broke
The monkey got choked
And they all went to heaven in a little row boat..."
(excerpt from childhood jump-rope ditty)
Surely, he's waiting for The Magic Bus.
[TOO MUCH, THE MAGIC BUS! - Pete, Roger & John]
Oh my, this is classic CO.
The silly animal combo, the furry cuteness, and the goofy commentary are all there.
The Monkeh on the bus says,
"Move to the back!
Move to the back!
Move to the back!"
is that Johnny the Gibbon?
What?!?!!?1?
If anyone is interested it's a Lar Gibbon, you can tell from its white hands.
I think what gets me it that the Gibbon is like why are you staring at me, this is totally normal!
I hear no one yelling "'Shopped" and yet, how can this be real? Did the gibbon just say, "Hey, I think I'll wait here for a minute with my pet Wallaby..."?
I've done all sorts of searches and nothing.
I'm going back to my Magic Bus theory...since that song is still running through my head. Way to give myself an earworm...
[You caaaaaaaaan't have it! - Ed.]
Amazink foto...but my question is: What kind of wood was used to make that bench?
Why are there people taking offense at GD?? Uptight much? If that offends you, you're in the wrong place.
[Well, agreed, but remember CO is visible to the *whole* internet. I think we even get through the "Great Firewall" - Ed.]
If you have to pick an animal as a purse, a wallaby or kangaroo is the way to go--secret pockets!!!!
Gibbon de soikumstances, dis is amazing!
Meg you are the fuuuuurrrrrnnniest of all!
--the hell?
A primate waiting at a bus stop, holding a marsupial?? Wall-a-by darned!
**sorry**
Oooh, debg, ...it's a walletby.
If you're curious about the wood, and have more time to look for wood
http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics/
there you go.
1. I don't see anyone "taking offense" at GD. I just see a couple bemused comments.
2. Why is taking the high road always considered "uptight"?
3. Where are the nuffs complaining about the gibbon having an unusual pet? Is it okay to domesticate wild animals if you're gibbon?
4. I'm kidding.
5. So don't get yer undies in a bunch.
Ah heck, I emailed the man myself to ask for a wood ID - I'd like to know myself, but am too busy today to search 1000's of wood pictures on his site.
I'll post more later if he answers me.
I strongly object to Gibbons taking on pets of any kind, especially a poor Wallaby, who must have a helluva time swinging from tree to tree...
Bartender: Wall I'll be!
Gibbon: No, actually its a Kangaroo.
It must be a hearing-ear Wallaby- notice the large ears on afore-mentioned Wallaby and the seeming lack of ears on the not-yet mentioned Gibbon.
Thanks for the wood 'fix' Ermine Violin, I got up to the "D's" before I had to stop-I'll keep looking. Trufulla trees, indeed, Niiiiice! They don't look real, do they?
PYRIT!!! OMG!! That was the BEST! My friends and I used to double-dutch to that
*flashes back to childhood jump rope, jacks & candy necklaces*
*whispers* Thanks Pyrit, You've made my week *smiles*
Theo, what's cuter? A Bleen or a Spleen? heh.
Listen, Frost. You're too much. I don't know how to explain my ruined keyboard to the IT guy.
IT: What did you do?
Me: I uh, saw a picture of an orangatang holding a wallaby.
IT: What?
Me: I thought it was so funny I did a spit take...and it shorted out my keyboard...
IT: I hate you.
OOOOooweee! i haven't laughed that much at comments in a while.
lol @ katerz. do you think the Gibbon goes home and eats the truffula fruits and sits around making Thneeds? The thing that everyone needs?
You know, it's the funniest thing. This heat wave has fried my brain. I went to Cute Overload and there was this picture of a kitten, but I was so overcome by heat that for some reason I saw this crazy picture of a gibbon and a wallaby. It was too weird.
I'll go lay down now.
Auntie Mame rocks! Great song ref, and Billy Gibbon... wish I'da thoughtathat! (Bows down)
Srsly, what IS the back story on this?? I think we NEED to know!
.....wow
I'm pretty sure that the Gibbon is wearing a thnead right now.
Oh, look at that, a red line under the word thnead.....pffft-Microsoft doesn't have it in the dictionary? For shame.
For shame for a lot of thing, but this is just inexcusable!
I Love my MAC!
Pretty good comment thread, y'all. You do Friday proud.
;)
Oh, and Katrina, that's because it's spelled "Thneed".
(I am Thee Loreex. I speek for thee "EE"s.)
;P
The Magic Bus, or maybe the Crazy Bus:
(Slappy, sloopy, gloppy, gloopy
Happy-happy, hoopy-hoopy
Dopey, doffy, screwy, blue-y
Gooey, chewy, fooey, dewey
Absolutely bus-a-looey
Crazy, lazy, crazy, crazy bus.)
Teh puns, people, teh puns are killingk moi! Keep up the good work and I'll keep all beverages away from my Mac.
Hey, Teho! Howzabout a RCF on this one? Or maybe our Grand Master Pimp friend of a few posts ago?
kthxbai!!
Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie Bus?
How is it possible that *no one* has come up with the real explanation for this? I must know! (I mean, I love all the suggestions, don't get me wrong. But...how did this happen????)
...and, I was just joking about Whisper-ma-phones with my kidlets this morning on the way to school! Weird!!
Mom2K -- you can't rush miracles... you do, you get lousy miracles.
'k. I'll wait...
...heh, besides, how much more "reality-casual" do you think I could possibly make this??
;)
snort...I thought it was just the margaritas was throwin' back last night.
*I* was throwin' back...See? I had too many, obvy.
Wastin' away again in Comment-typo-ville...
Ok my brain has officially shut down. It isn't even 5 o'clock yet and I am useless, useless I tell you for the rest of the day. Why? Because I just (yes I am that slow) JUST read the final bit under the pic. Now I cannot get the image of this pair riding a unicycle to work.
Grate, now I haz an image trying to squeeze in, just where x'actly does dis guy work? Oh my braineeeeeee!!
Yay for another Princess Bride reference!
Awww...shaddup.
;-)
*going to lie down now & wait for RCF to kick in*
That's my uncle and his new wife. She's a bit young for him but we have come to accept her.
"Wastin' away again in Comment-typo-ville..."
Theo, you never cease to amaze me! You, my friend, are brilliant!
Yes, he really Bleen(s) our Bell(s) doesn't he?
A wallaby's a bargain. I paid 4 koalas a gallon for gasoline the other day.
Thanks, joools. (If you're gonna have an earworm, you might as well give it to yourself. Although, given Theresa's comment, mebbe this is Frank Beard, instead. You know...the guy with the metaphorical whiskers.)
Eek! The most inspiring post in weeks and I'm at work and don't have time to process all of the genius comments and come up with one of my own! Although I will say that to me, "GD" means "Grateful Dead" and pyrit singing "The Monkey and the Engineer" (which the Dead played 37 times in concert) made my day!
But the story here needs to be explored further. I'm gonna have to sleep on this one.
Berthaslave you better, watch your speed...
The mind, she boggles...
Bev, I think it's high time our government got off its bureaucratic arse & released some of our koala reserves, don't you think?
With a cowboy hat, it all makes sense. Sort of. Oh well, no it doesn't, but look anyway:
http://entertainment.webshots.com/photo/2053854100054217802YHMzku
*snicker* theresa-how did you know my uncle is a country singer?
I drive a hybrid, and it was a mere meerkat for the whole week.
eh the way gas is around here-its probably a donkey a day
Katerz, that was just mean. Whatever did I do you you that you would send me down on a wild goose chase. (Shaking head).
Thank you, Ermine Violin, for taking my question seriously (Said very primly with a definite snub to aforementioned Katerz).
Wood you could you in a box? Wood you could you with a fox?
One of the Top Ten C.O. pic & caption combinations. Laughed out loud, for realz. Good Friday, y'all!
There, I have asked Mr. HobbitHouse. And we shall know.
Truffula tree indeed!
FTW???
theo, i'd love to see a hamster huey and the gooey kablooie thing! *happy dance*
And the gibbon has his/her legs crossed!
Guys, did you know there is a "Hamster Huey" Controversy? Yes, after the Calvin and Hobbes references to a fictional story that Calvin's Dad read to him ("I wonder if they will ever find Hamster Huey's head?"), someone wrote a book with that title, and tried to sell it on Amazon?
See:
http://candh.wikia.com/wiki/Hamster_Huey_and_the_Gooey_Kablooie
He shouldn't cross his legs that way, it gives you varicose veins.
I've officially seen it all now. Gee, I hope that doesn't mean I'm going to die . . .
I think I've figured out the bench. It's not wood, at all. It's made out of a giant carrot.
[Hand-lacquered carrotwood, to be precise... if not exactly *accurate* - Ed.]
I had a brownie at lunch
I came to C.O.
I now believe I may have had a "special" brownie.
Another one *hops* the bus, another one *hops* the bus. Another comes on and another comes on, another one *hops* the bus. Hey, who's gonna sit by you? Another one *hops* the bus.
look at that beautiful wood! What kind of wood is that?
Well, I guess it's left to me to make the obvious reference....
"My name's Forrest Gibbon. My friends call me 'Forrest Gibbon'. (reaches under Wallaby) Would you like a chocolate? My mama always said life's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get."
i drew a picture just like this in therapy once. don't know what that means, but there it is....
Gail, that might be grosser than my ear-cleaning service, right there.
;)
Uh..... hey, Gail... are you sure it was a chocolate that came out from under the wallaby?
Just wonderin.
Good GRIEF people....lacquered carrot benches, wallaby chocolate poos, gibbon varicose veins??? Yes, that most definitely WAS a "special" brownie I had at lunch. Anybody else hear the theme music to the Twilight Zone?
Nope, just "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin.
Can't say I'm pleased about it, either.
...you know, I could rip on Bobby McFerrin from day till night because of that song I just mentioned, and the whole "Simple Pleasures" album from whence it sprung... but then I happen to watch something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgvJg7D6Qck
Seriously, it starts out as a total joke. Yeah [SNORT] right, sure, the audience is going to sing the Gounod melody while you're tootling away with the Bach part, ha ha. Just make with the sound effects, ya washed-up beat-box '80s-era half-wit... except, um, then he actually starts doing the Bach pipe-organ tootles, and by golly the audience *does* the Gounod "Ave Maria" part. It's like he's leading an orchestra. How the HELL he ever got THAT to work... well, maybe the concert was recorded at freakin' Juilliard, because that sure as heck was never some HBO comedy crowd. Oy vey indeed.
Um, yeah. Tangent. But what the heck, we've got gibbons with wallabys!
What great fun reading thru all the comments! :) This little guy and his friend are so cute I want to stick 'em in my pocket and take 'em home. Wouldn't mind having the groovy bench either!
Wow... It's like The Wonderful World of Richard Scarry. I can't wait to see the other animals on the bus. Srsly, what'll happen next? Is Lowly the Worm the bus driver?
ZOMG ppls, the Truffula tree, carrotwood (Is it from Brobdingnag or the land of the Giants in Jack and the magic beans? Umm, my brain is now zooming into the Bugs Bunny version of Jack and the magic beans.), hobbithouseinc... What curious Wonderland Story Time Warp is this?
Thees thread ees great.
This picture has just caused a ten-car pileup IN MY BRAIN.
gibbon: "whatchoo lookin at? Ain't never seen a wallaby before?"
I was assuming that the wonderful wooden bench was painted - beautifully, artfully painted. Seriously, does any tree from this planet come those colors on the inside?
You remember paint - it's what they used before photoshop.
And Theo, thanks for the Bobby McFerrin Bach. It's gorgeous! (Although I'm sure there was a trained chorus somewhere in the backround there... still gorgeous... )
Thanks, Theo - that video really WAS awesome! (not as awesome as a GD gibbon with a GD wallaby, but that IS a tough act to follow...)
Raemie L-- Where's Goldbug? In the Pickle Car?
Thanks, Theo-- I was singing along!! That WAS awesome. I'm a classical soprano, and McFerrin has the best intonation of any singer in any style.
BTW, it took my a while to warm up to DWBH but I kind of like it, now.
ZZ Top's "waitin' for the bus all day" is the song i've been singin' in my head all day after seeing this post :)
also love the shout out to the monkey song, which is also quoted in another popular earworm:
...the line broke, the monkey got choked,
odabottenbeedabotten (sp?)
red, red wiiiiii-iiine
stay close to meeee-yaeee-eeee
uhh.. *backing away slowly, rubbing eyes*
I'll go back to bed.
*the humans have gone nuts....I'll get you out of here...
Make sure you got the right
way to pay...this bus driver don't take no wallaby-wannabes...
Thanks a lot,TURBOFLOOF, for beating me to the "tough act" comment...you talk better, anyway. I've been howling out loud with all these comments--no CO at the library or I'll be asked to leave--or maybe they'll just throw me out!
@Theresa: Wow, classical soprano!
It is really interesting to me how many of us 'comment'ers' are creative/artistic! Birds of a feather....
Here the bus fare used to be 1 baby langur monkey, but now they've made it TWO BABY ELEPHANTS. How am I supposed to be lugging around two frisky half-tonne baby elephants? On a BUS?! Don't be complaining to me about no squirmy wallabies! I hate inflation and these differences in currency values!
Theo - thank you for the Bobby McFerrin link. I sent it to my choir director who I found out had actually gone to BMcF's concert at the Meyerhoff a few years ago. He said he was amazed at how many people knew the Gounod and how gorgeous it was.
I guess it makes sense; I mean, the folks who would go to see him in concert are by and large the same sort of folks who, you know, SING.
Also, it always amazes me how dropping the slightest reference in a place like this can bring folks out of the woodwork. I bet if I say "Ten Tenors", at least ten Cute Overload peeps will *immediately* swoon.
Like classically-trained dominoes, you are.
;)
Wellllll, some of them ARE quite attractive:
http://www.thetentenors.com/
