My youngest daughter's name is Emily Rose. She's almost as cute and likes to have her feet rubbed. *Snerk*

Adorable! Reminds me of my cat Fritz. Someone left him and his littermates on in a bag on the side of the road, he was the only one still alive. He was so weak when I took him to the vet that he only charged me $1. I had to feed him formula from the vets with an eyedropper. But he made it and lived to be 17.

I forced myself to watch halfway through and had to stop it. I would had rather she hadn't said everything 2 - 3 times. Each statement once would have been plenty. Yes, I baby talk to animules too and don't object at all to it. I object to the constant re-run of everything said. Urp!

You know those people who send in negative posts about anything, no matter how innocent?? Do you think their ears start to grow upward? Maybe get a little floppy? And their noses start to twitch? And then, do they grow whiskers that go all aquiver with indignation??

Leslie
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 11:13 AM

The baby talk got a bit tiresome near the end, yes. But I give her mad props for the use of the word "turgid." And that kitty is OBSCENELY adorable. Like, it should be against the law, to be that cute.

Jo-Lynn
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 11:52 AM

I had to take that video in small sips. I have never seen such a sweet little kitty, and I bow to that lady's amazing babytalk vocabulary! If she has/ever has kids, they would probably start talking at 6 weeks!

Julie
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 11:53 AM

Wordnerd: agree about "turgid" - thought that was a good word not used enough. Wide vocabulary and teeny kitty, good things to have. :)

Deanna
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 11:55 AM

That woman was a thousand times more coherent than I would have been. No being in the Universe would have been able to understand the babble that would come out of my mouth at the presence of that itty bitty baby! So precious my brain melted out my ears.

Monty
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 11:56 AM

I can't help it. You can hear that this lady is the bomb through the baby talk. I listened to every word with a smile.

And the baby...I actually got tears in my eyes.

Cerise
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 11:56 AM

Well, I think the "scritcher" has a sweet voice and the "scritchee" seems to like it too. She'll grow up to be a lovable kitty because of the attention she's getting.

Deanna
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 11:57 AM

Emilia Rose? this kitten is named after my sister and i! i have a question though, why would anyone name something Emily Rose, after the Exorcism of Emily Rose came out. kind of like no one names their children "Rosemary" anymore :P

Emilia
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 11:57 AM

I could totally stuff that kitten in my mouf, but I have to say with all these kitten postings and such, we need to be realize the spca's are LOADED with cats and kittens. Please, please, please, spay/neuter cats.

Kristen
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 12:02 PM

I'm guessing because some people don't base how they name others on what horror movies are/have been out?

I mean, there's a whole host of names that aren't in common use anymore that have nothing to do with movies.

Monty
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 12:02 PM

Kristen, this little lady and her siblings were abandoned by their mother and adopted by my friend - she's incredible when it comes to taking in strays and injured cats. She just took in a three-legged cat called Grace to care for and found someone to adopt her really quickly. You should go check out her journal (LJ username naamah_darling).

Trialia
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 12:08 PM

Yes, I know, baby talk is terrible, horrible, and the end of the world. It contributes to falling literacy rates, global warming, the obesity crisis, dolphin herpes, and the increase of cattle mutilations.

But you know, I challenge anyone to observe that level of cuteness in person and retain the power of coherent speech.

Anyone in doubt of my mental faculties can go to my journal and look at more pictures and see if they can still talk without drooling on themselves.

I'm not some sort of slack-jawed, subliterate, finger-sniffing imbecile, I promise. I was just exposed to toxic levels of cuteness at close range. A simple "Awww, how adorable!" is woefully insufficient. Sorry about those cattle mutilations.

She gets cuter every day, FYI.

Naamah
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 12:14 PM

Paddy-paws! I love it. I agree with Deanna, she does have a sweet voice so I don't care how many times she repeats herself.

Jeanette
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 12:17 PM

If I were narrating this video, it would just come out as a series of gurgles and squeals. Propz to the hand-scratcher for keeping some kind of coherency.

That being said,

AAAIIIIEEEEWIDDLEKITTEHHHHH!!
*cute coma*

Maggie

I bow to *both* your powers of speech.

 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 12:49 PM

Having finally heard the audio, the baby talk isn't nearly as bad as I imagined. Pretty standard for someone who really loves animals (and also sedate, apropos of the kitteh's sleepy demeanor).

Naamah, thanks for the love you give the world.

Yeah, all you "Oh the baby talk is so horrid" people. Yeah you, tough guys! My 12 year old, The Quintessential Sullen Pre-Teen, He Who Will Not Smile, The Boy Who is Immune to Emotion, yes, the Kid Who is Overexposed to Video Game Violence walked by as I played the clip and said, in all sincerety:

"EEeee! Wook at dee widdle biddy kitty-cat!"

Brought a tear to my eye, it did.

You know something, people? This site is good for the world and it's not just because of the adorable pictures. To sit here and read these comments, see people talking about nomming a cute kitty's ears, going squee while their heads explode, typing in baby talk because that's the only way they can express the extreme cuteness of what they see....all this is so awesome!

The goodness of all you guys responds to the goodness of these wonderful pictures Meg posts for us and you express it in such a silly, fun, and good-natured way - in a way that lifts me up more than the pictures so.....hooray for all you guys! Let's keep it up! And now back to your regularly scheduled cute coma.

BTW, there are apparently 2 Deanna's posting today. The comment saying oh.........my.........god, and the mini-purr remark, and the response to the word "turgid" - that was me, but the poster who said "scritcher" and "scritchee" was another Deanna. So I will henceforth call myself Eireoakie.

 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 03:06 PM

Thanks a lot, Naamah, for taking care a this sweet baby and her siblings (and many more, I guess): it will be hard to let them go! The last two cats I adopted were adults because I thought it would be harder for them to find a house, and everything, and I would do it again... but, man, kittens are just SO CUTE! How can you go to work with some of them around? Thanks also to Trialia for the submission.

Elena

 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 04:08 PM

Can someone tell me how old a kitten is supposed to be before it is taken from its mom and handled by people? Cute as they are, I'm starting to get an icky feeling every time I see one of these REALLY little kittens being poked/touched by people. I can't help feeling that a kitty this age, should, ideally, be with her mommy.

I'm not trying to be a troll, I just wish someone could enlighten me here.

The Purrs people I mean Really it is all about the PURRRRRRS.. And Naaamah you are awesome.

Annie
 |  Apr 24, 2008 at 06:27 PM

Emily - You may not have recognized the purring as purring. It's not the standard rising and falling "PURrrr, PURrr, PURRrr sound. It's a continuous putt-putt-putt motorboat sound. If you can hear the lady, I think you have to be able to hear the purring.

WOW.
The fact a tiny little kitten like that was so comfortable and happy to receive that attention just BLOWS my MIND. The kittens I've had were all too squirmy to let me love on them like that, even tiny bits of love!

That tiny face...the tiny purrs...so overwhelmingly cute I want to jump out of a window!!!!

Aw want want want! Tiny pawsies of gorgeousness!

By the way I think the name of the horror film/book was 'Audrey Rose', not Emily. So no horror connected in any way with the cuteness.
I want to tuck that kitten up under my heart and keep it there. Wish I could foster tinies like this.

Londoner
 |  Apr 25, 2008 at 02:07 AM

Hey, Londoner---some Mommies with teensy, widdle babies like this need fostering, too...all the fun with none of the work ('cause the Mommy's doing it---just like fostering a grown-up, really)! I'm fostering 2 Mommies; one with 4 and the other has 5 babies.

@PandaDiana--it's encouraged to handle the babies, to get them used to peeps! The moms I have keep a watchful eye, but they don't have a problem with me picking up and snorgling the babies.

That is...the most...PRECIOUS thing..............

And I don't use the word precious lightly here. Truly a treasure, this little baby and this little sleepy moment. I wouldn't have been able to speak coherently in her presence either.

And she has my name squee! :) Well my first name and middle initial.

Naamah, you are AWESOME, and this is the sweetest thing ever.

One more thing--that's not purring, that's drilling!!! ;) (Seriously, I don't know if it was something about the audio, but that was some unusual-sounding purring. Still ANERABLE.)

NO!

I like how she starts off trying to talk normal and dissolves into goo-goo baby talk. This is exactly what happens with my cats, although they're over 2 years old now.

Wordnerd (my nickname at work, by the way!), I completely agree about the use of "turgid"! I was delighted by that, and by the whole video. Especially when she said "See? All they want is a little love"; I thought, would that more people understood that!

@ Janni - Yeah, he likes to think he's cool and all that, but he has been an animal (and especially cat) person from day one. My other two kids are animal lovers, too. It's just that they "SQUEE" all the time.

Pre-Teen just walked past with our elderly cat tucked under his arm. Classic Unsmiling Urban Kid with a tail sticking out from under his elbow. Not going anywhere. Just, you know, carrying the cat around the house...

Don't you love how people grumble about oogly boogly babytalk, even as they frequent a site that uses words like "bebeh" and "snorgle" and "tocks"?

Who needs lulz when you've got CuteOverload :D

On a lighter note, Emmy and Jack and Plissken are so cute I could die.

This is why God placed cute little animals on the earth! I built a 6 foot tall and 1 foot by 1 foot hamster cage for my baby! This little one reminds me of Peaches.

Oh, please. When two of my cats were babies, I sounded like a blithering idiot compared to this girl. I think she (and the kitten) are absolutely darling.

One thing I've never understood:

How do they manage to stuff such a big motor into such a tiny body?

It's just one more thing that makes kittehs so miraculous...........

Baby talk actually has a purpose. In child development circles, it's known as "motherese." Babies prefer (as in get obvious bored slower) the long musical words.
There is the variant often called "dogese" (I guess you could say "catese" too). The difference is that dogese doesn't put emphasis on different parts of the sentence (verbs especially) that you do in motherese in order to actually teach infants language. So apparently we do get subconsciously that cute things must be talked to in a musical manner, but animals aren't going to need to talk back the same way that human babies will.
Just an FYI. That college education was good for something...

You know I didn't realize for a while that the "putt putt" sound was the kitten purring, until about 3/4 of the way in when she breaks for a moment and then comes back stronger. Eeee. <3

Just toooooo cute! I love her! I have a 15 yr. old, 6 yr. old and an 8 month kitten and I treat them as my kids. And the people with the negative comments are apparently not animal lovers.

PandaDiana,

when I was 8 a precious litter of kittens was born under my bed. I think those cats were handled from day 2 if not day 1. Very gently, mind. Also it helped if Mama was taking a meal break. They grew into big, loving, wonderful cats (understandably leary of underaged human. So was my Mama, who supervised my kitten-time). Katy, the one we kept was my boon companion til I moved away (no cats allowed in dorm or first few apts) and lived to be almost 16.

Yay for late comments!

I love the tickety purr, the spotty belleh, and the wee tailio.

I defy anybody to hold this tiny a kittain in one hand and not be compelled to make the ickiest baby talk imaginable to it. I mean, could you ever say something like "Hello, Miss Emily Rose, and how are you today? Are the accommodations satisfactory? And the food? How about the service?" No, it would be impossible.

Kittains: A stomach, with incredibly loud meow, wrapped in fur and including a purr.
