@ Janni - Yeah, he likes to think he's cool and all that, but he has been an animal (and especially cat) person from day one. My other two kids are animal lovers, too. Baby talk actually has a purpose. In child development circles, it's known as "motherese." Babies prefer (as in get obvious bored slower) the long musical words. There is the variant often called "dogese" (I guess you could say "catese" too). The difference is that dogese doesn't put emphasis on different parts of the sentence (verbs especially) that you do in motherese in order to actually teach infants language. So apparently we do get subconsciously that cute things must be talked to in a musical manner, but animals aren't going to need to talk back the same way that human babies will. Just an FYI. PandaDiana, when I was 8 a precious litter of kittens was born under my bed. I think those cats were handled from day 2 if not day 1. Very gently, mind. Also it helped if Mama was taking a meal break. They grew into big, loving, wonderful cats (understandably leary of underaged human. So was my Mama, who supervised my kitten-time).
