What is it about cats and drinking water from a glass? If I fill up my cat's bowl and my own glass with the SAME water, which does he choose? The glass of course.
The shot of this kitteh's tongue is awesome!

I love how kittens like to drink water out of ANYTHING but their own water dish... even the toilet for my kitty.

Looks just like my little girl kitteh at home and she has the same habit. Love that tongue! Hey, has anyone else created a song for their cats, preferably when you're a tad tipsy?? It's quite fun. People love my silly kitteh songs. Hehe!

Those reflections of the human hand are very Escher-esque. And the first photo reveals that someone is a doodler!

Kitteh tongue! The bestest tongues in the world!

Kitty looks a little smashed in the second pic. Me thinks perhaps it isn't water in his glass!

kitteh facial distortion!

That final pic is excellent.

Kittens! *trying to sound exasperated* Amazing how they know they can get through the smallest spaces, but don't know their heads aren't as squishy and flexible as the rest of their bodies.

 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 08:32 AM

Mine would do that only if it was milk. They drink it up!

Although my late, beloved Chiaro would guzzle my coke as soon as I put the glass down.

I wouldn't mind a close up of that tongue.

Licking from the glass = cute.

Knocking over the glass and licking from the floor = my life.

:D

Cool! Wanna sing our kitty songs for these lovely pet-luvin peeps? Maybe they'll throw money.

Deanna
 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 09:32 AM

With my singing, I fully expect them to throw something. Money would be a nice surprise and a departure from the norm!

o/~
Chorus: Kirbert Kitane
has a stripedy brain
Kirbert Kita-ane

Striping around in the neighborhood
Will he do evil or a little good
It's so hard to see
He is a feline mystery

Chorus

Monte Carlo or the Vegas strip
Kitane is always the height of hip
Striping around
On the tabby side of town

Chorus (with big finish and jazz paws)

Makes me want to set glasses of water around the house for my kitty... see if she will drink from them. Of course, I have to put them on the floor, because she doesn't like jumping on things... lazy cat...

When my students taught my kitten how to drink from a glass, I was really peeved. (Kitty didn't need much encouragement by the way.) He kept knocking over glasses. Now his head is too big.

My senior tuxdo kitty does this. All though she isn't as coordinated about it. The class usually ends up dumped on the floor.

 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 09:48 AM

Wow, your song is better than mine. 'Course, I'd had a few beers when I composed mine and they're only one verse.

The one for my Pookie boy is:
I've got a kitty called Ookie Pookie
He's kinda fat but often pukie
He's soft and sweet and really spooky
He's my Ookie Pookie!

(haha, pretty silly, I know, but fun to sing. Love them beers, huh?)

and for my Chloe girl:
I've got a sweet Chloe Zoe kitty
She's small and striped but kinda shitty
She talks a lot and she's awfully pretty
She's my Chloe kitty!

(Sorry for the vulgarity, but it fits; she's my little trouble-maker with an attitude)

HOPE YOU ALL ENJOYED THAT!

I've been wondering something about the new occupant of Teho's Cat Cave....mainly, will she be the mama of Threebert, who has been prophesied to be born on April 1, 2008 in a left sock-drawer at the CO Dream Office? Does the Cat Cave have a sock-drawer? I sure hope so! :D:D

DejaMew
 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 10:34 AM

Frank S and Paul P...one is not like the other? I'm sure those pics get submitted multiple times if they've been around the internet.

I love that the cat is standing on a book in the first picture.

DejaMew --
Good question! Probably Isis' kittens will arrive well before April, though. However, if it looks like the dates will somehow miraculously align with that which has been written, then you have my word that I'll pull the clean-sock hamper in from the laundry room, you know, just to be sure.

Otherwise I suppose I may just have to... *revise* the Glossary entry for "Dream Office" reasonably soon. ;)

ZB -- hey, do you have a Flickr link or something else like that online? Gimme the URL, I'll check it out, and if everything's kosher I'll update the post...

Song for my cats when they get into a particular position:

Upside Down,
Upside-Downy Head!
Upside Down
Upside Down
Upside Downy head!

PS when I'm feeling Sondheim-ish:

Attend the tale of Stinky Todd
He has a black and white fuzzy bod
He clawed the faces of gentlemen
Who never thereafter were heard of again.
He trod a path that few have trod
Did Stinky Todd, the demon kitty of Fleet Street. :P

Theresa
 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 11:44 AM

And one more, to the tune of the Grinch song:

You're a clean one,
Mr. Stink!
You really are a sight!
Your white fur is so blinding,
You glow in the dark at night, Mr. Stink!

You're a cute one,
Mr. Stink,
You really are a hoot,
You're a handsome little devil,
The epitome of cute, Mr. Stink!

Theresa
 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 11:54 AM

More like Drinkie Clawed.

(OK, so I'm no Sondheim. I knew that.)

ZB, presumably lots of folks read your blog -- that's kinda the point, right? (btw I note you've got Raymi linked from your LJ, and her kitty Cid has shown up here a number of times; small world, eh?)

Anyway, I found your kitty pix & will update...

The Thirsty Kitteh

The prosh leetle kitteh-kat
Slurped water from a tall glass cup
with his pretty pink tongue
'till every last drop was all gone
And then his leetle hayd got stuck.

Mine is even worse... she STICKS HER PAW in the water, scoops some up, and then drinks it from her paw. This is fine and cutedorable when she is drinking out of her own bowl, but when she gets up on the coffee table and sneeeeaaaaks her paw into your glass.... *shudders*

Theo...you may have the kitty madonna residing in your Cat Cave. How great is this World of Cute!

DejaMew
 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 01:28 PM

oakling - my cat does the same thing! With food and drink. She has to put her paw right in it and then bring paw to mouth to check it out. If she likes it then the paw comes back. Totally adorable but a bit annoying at times. Especially when I don't want her paw in my bowl of cereal! :)

Kitten also apparently reads trashy romance novels.

Hope it's age appropriate for the little 'un.

someone's doing their math homework with interruptions.

Pyracantha
 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 02:48 PM

Mine have done the same thing forever . . .we finally gave up on the water bowls on the kitchen floor (they just ignore them) and have taken to using two oversized coffee mugs on the coffee table. Now they leave our glasses alone unless they contain milk or hot chocolate. (I know, I know, chocolate bad. Hard to stop 'em when you turn your head and they sneak attack).

I also gave up years ago on kittehs drinking from bowl on floor. Apparently it was *invisible*. She has one glass on side table by TV chair and one on bathroom counter. Also one by the bed but I don't think she drinks out of that one anymore. I fill it up just in case though.

one of my cats also does this actually. with my boyfriend's cup of water DAILY. when she's drank too much that her head doesn't fit anymore, she tips the glass over gently. on the carpet. and then licks the ice cubes.

 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 04:22 PM

LOL!!! Love the little pawsie holding the glass!!!

All except one of mine are toilet drinkers---Baby taught Charlie and then Charlie taught the sisters and now Daniel Striped Kitten (marmie boy!) does it, too!! I actually had to ask my nephew (takes care of the kids while I'm out of town) to make sure he leaves the lid up :-) Bit of an annoyance to shoo a kitteh out of said toidy when in a hurry "to go"!!

Gail
 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 04:41 PM

Okay, immediately after posting "toilet drinkers" story, there's a pop-up ad back on CO's main page "You're flushing your money down the toilet!", complete with picture of toilet and dollar bills where the kittehs would be!!!!!!!!!

Weird or scary?? Better than the porn ads that some folks have had!!!!

Gail
 |  Feb 28, 2008 at 04:52 PM

I'm sure kitteh would rather have a Tab.

Aubrey
