Meet Hercules:  Ancient hero... blood donor... draft horse... impressionist?

Hercules lives right down the road from me, more or less, at the U of M's College of Veterinary Medicine.  About a month ago, Herc helped raise funds for the U's new Equine Center in unique fashion -- by creating hoofprint paintings as gifts to the (human) donors (of money).

The imposing palomino isn't limited to prints, though--he's been receiving instruction on his brush technique.  This is a university, after all.

Here's what I'd like to see, though: For your next fundraiser, tack a plain canvas dropcloth to the wall, line up a couple of paintbuckets in front of it on a sawhors... um, some kind of support... then have Hercules give 'em each a nice solid kick.  Et voila: Jackson Paddock.

People, this is Carlos Muffin, an exotic shorthair, just like Winston the kitteh. You may remember Señor Muffin from his first pic on C.O. where he almost keelled his owner for dressing him up. He obvy has infinite patience.

Our fave kitteh "Winston" is up to his smooooshed-face antics again, looking annoyed, and generally lazy (notice not a single paw is lifted during his battle with the string.)

Bashful mantis leaves a present

Sender-Inner Lorel J says: "Earlier this year I hatched 3 praying mantis egg cases (insert comment about sitting on them).  Finally a grown-up one found me.  I don't flatter myself that it came to thank me for the gift of life, but it did leave me a little present, albeit unintended. [see CU with circled gifty-poo, also attached] Guess he was nervous, poor guy.  Probably soothed himself by chawing on a ladybug."
