Ladies, remember when you were young and your parents would dress you in undies that had lace all over the 'tocks and that were both mildly itchy and, when you thought about it a few yesrs later, hugely embarrassing? That's what this reminds me of.

Oh my word, that is the cutest little fluffybutt I've seen in a very long time!

No Shelley, although I didn't have fluffy white undies as much as plaid or whatever bloomer thingies that my mom made of matching fabric to my "pinafore" to cover my undies. The best part is that she also made my brother matching shirts. I have photos to prove it. I had the fluffy white round shirt sleeves under the pinafore. :: sigh :: those were the days.

Sweet fluffy tockage!!!! Is it wrong of me to want to pet it? Just the furry, floofy white part...

And LOL, ShelleyTambo -- it's not just you.

Although it was a bit different in my case. My mother says that when I was still in diapers I saw other little girls wearing the ruffled panties, and I told her that I wanted some, too. She said that they were "big girl panties", and that I could have some as soon as I was completely potty-trained.

Evidently, I was out of diapers and using the toilet within a week -- I WANTED those ruffled panties, lol! And yes, I got some. :-)

'Tocks rock.

If we had a springbok (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Springbok_etosha.jpg), we'd have 'bok 'tocks!

Pheas
 |  Jul 31, 2007 at 10:12 AM

liz, it's not so much being embarrassed by them while you're wearing them as a few years later when your parents haul out the albums and you find that they were taking pictures of your butt because it was so damn "cute."

The biologist mouths off again: pronghorns can floof their 'tocks like this for the same reason whitetail deer flash their white tails: to make a visible alert to others in case of actual or possible predators. This cute little kid is just practicing.

More pronghorn trivia: they are the fastest animals in the Americas (60 mph), and sometimes seem to race cars for fun. The North American cheetah that made them evolve to be that fast was wiped out at the end of the last ice age, possibly by people, along with the North American lion (and horse and camel), longhorned bison, dire wolves, short-faced bears, a groundhog with horns on its nose, and a whole lot of other critters I sorely regret never seeing.

re: ruffly bottom underpants... oh, the 70s! i remember a green plaid pair that went with my green jumper with plaid sleeves and a plaid apple on the front.

btw... is it strange that i'm now 36 and have 4 pairs of them...??? just wondering...

I distinctly remember my ruffle panties, but that's probably because I've seen plenty of pictures of them. The ones that stick out in my mind were the red ones. I think it's one of those fashions that transcends time. I wore them in the early 80s.

fluffer butt

angel
 |  Jul 31, 2007 at 10:43 AM

Haha, I was just thinking the same thing. I never had those underwear when I was a kid, but I've always wanted them since I was about 18, and I can never find a pair with that perfect fluffiness. Ah well, our 'tocks will never be as cute as this little antelope's.

ruffle panties on anyone over 3 might be a mistake.
not sure of the "cute factor" on that.

First thing that popped into my head when I saw this shot, as it usually does with shots like this, is the memory of my dear beagle/sheltie cross that I had as a teenager. The beagle blood shortened and smoothed down almost her entire coat...except for her "tocks". Her knickname was Ol' Fluffy Butt, a little honey blonde that looked like she'd sat on a bale of cotton. When the weather was hot, we'd trim all that fluff for her and had to cut out many a wad of solidified hair, too. Easily the best, sweetest, smartest dog I've ever had the real privelige of owning as a girl. Damn I miss her still...

The way they're head-butting, it reminds me of Crush and Squirt from Finding Nemo. don't you remember them?
Crush: "You so totally rock, Squirt!! So gimme some fin"
*they slap fins*
Crush: "Noggin"
*they head-butt*
Both: "dude..."

Love this little pronghorn! Like your comments Tina Rhea--I'm a biologist too. There were also other smaller species of pronghorns in the Pleistocene if I remember correctly. Pronghorns always remind me of the Pleistocene fauna too.

Tina, thanks for those pronghorn facts. I had no idea they like to race cars, but it doesn't surprise me. The pronghorn in our field site seem to behave almost as mischievously as the bear.

I personally would have liked to have seen a Ground sloth.

I don't see any tocks whatsoever. *Cries*

OK, got you all beat.

In the early 1950s, I had a very small pair of green corduroy overalls with ruffled eyelet lace on the bib, the pocket, the pants hems, *and* on the seat. Little white blouse, with Peter Pan collar and puff sleeves, to match.

My Mommy made it...

And, yes, I have the pictures (pigtails...) to prove it. Fortunately, at this point, it's reached nostalgic instead of embarassing.

I love watching herds o' antelope run along. They are so beautiful, and their 'tocks do gleam in the sunlight -- practically blinding. I remember on a vacation watching them run alongside the car and Dad nudging up the speed slowly as they kept pace.

A herd of them all turning, flashing their fluffy white 'tocks does look like a school of fish moving, except for the dry land thing.

Emc^2, lol! gotta love a peter pan collar...

and Pheas, how did I miss your "'bok 'tocks" comment!? hahahahahah!!!

and liz, i don't know, my 'tocks are pretty cute in ruffles... lol! i promise i'm not wearing them in public under a jumper dress.

 |  Jul 31, 2007 at 01:45 PM

I dunno Emc.. I think my brother having a matching shirt (matched to my pinafore and ruffle leg cuff bloomers) beats your overalls. I mean, we were a SET! And my mom made them all. Out of plaid Lanz material. And hair in Sandra Dee type ponytail. This was the early 50's. Come to think of it I don't think the ruffly bottom diapers had been invented yet.

Zookeeper chiming in w/ more trivia. Pronghorn are neither antelope nor deer. They're the only member left of their family, which is one of only two mammal families exclusive to North America (the other is the mountain beaver).
