Believe it or not, my cat Jake LOVES to be blow-dryed. Almost every day when I turn on the hair-dryer, he shows up and waits in the bathroom doorway or at my feet. Sometimes he jumps up onto the toilet lid and paws at me while I dry my hair. When I turn it on him, he lays on the floor and basks in the warmth.

Theo--thanks for taking my input!

another Michelle--yeah, Hobbes really did not like the blow dryer...or it could have been the gaggle of 10 year old girls trying to grab him and put the blow dryer in his face. That's so cute that your cat loves it! It must be adorable to watch!

i know a woman whose cat loves to be vacuumed with the vacuum-cleaner attachment.

and my sister's cat has a love/hate relationship with the hair dryer: when she uses the dryer, he comes running to stand near her feet and growl at the dryer.

why do people give their lil kitties baths and make them sad? my kitties don't get baths. they would never, ever forgive me.

We just gave our two kittehs their yearly bathings last week. Max didn't put up too much of a fight - he likes to play in water. He just yelled the entire time we washed him. Alti on the other hand decided that she did NOT want any part of it thankyouverymuch. Thirty minutes, one thrown tomato (note to self - clear off window sill before washing kitteh! she has good aim!) and two soaking wet humans later the ordeal was over - except for the evil looks we got the rest of the day!

kbryna - sometimes they get fleas and sometimes they have skin conditions that bathing improves

looking at this little kitteh i understand why some people think bathing cats is the most evilest thing in the world.

kbryna, when my little guy was just a little puff ball of a kitty, he missed a leap and ended up IN THE COMMODE... he then NEEDED a bath.

Haven't bathed him since, unless he got into something and required bathing... like the time he was attacked by a "squish" pillow and was covered with staticy little styroballs... (I really really didn't want him to wash himself in that case!)

trin

Haven't tried him on blow dryers, but our longhair loves to jump up in front of the air conditioner and have that cold air blow through his fluff-- even up his bum, which I wouldn't care for, myself.

I once had to wash the fluffiest kitten I've ever seen because he had had diarrhea. No fun for anyone involved. Poor Fergus's back half looked like a drowned rat's, but I tried to towel him as dry as I could.

There's no reason to bathe a kitty unless it got into something RILLY bad! Oh, poor widdle guy!

I bathed a lil orange stripey kitten once. He got into the trash, which I was sure he could not into, being so little and all. When I got home after work, there was a can on the floor which had previously contained Chef Boyardee ravioli, and lil kitty had dried-up orangy-red sauce all over himself. Apparently he fell asleep before he could clean himself up. Heh!! Forever after, he loved Chef Boyardee sauce.

My kitty gets a bath when his fur gets oily. For some reason his fur gets all yucky and matted feeling...even though he looks fine. It's been worse since he's been going outside. He also doesn't seem to do a very good job of cleaning himself...the other kitties like to help him! Methos gets worse and worse every time we bathe him. This last time he jumped and twisted himself as high as the windowsill in the bathroom! If he had front claws he probably would have climbed the shower curtain...and my husband would have been minus a hand! Drying, on the other hand, he loves. He loves being wrapped in a towel in his mommy's arms.

This poor kitteh looks like Methos does when I bathe him!

Tigger

When I got Buddy, he was dirty and stunk from being an outside kitty. No fleas thank goodness as Buddy was found in -15°F weather. He wasn't too bad getting baths. Hated the drying off with a towel part.

Scarlett had a bath when she first went to the shelter. She was 6 weeks old and had no visible fur, only crust and fleas. She had another bath just before she was spayed. She was really good for the bath and I towel dried her and flea combed her. About 2 years ago, she seemed to be excessively shedding, so I tried some of that shed-reducing shampoo (didn't work). She just cried and cried. I didn't get to see her bath at the vet's a few weeks ago. She was then given a lion cut. On the way home, she was either really peeved at me or she was still under sedation, but she peed in her carrier. She proceeded to splash me the whole way home with it. Luckily it didn't get in the car, just on me. So, needless to say, she had to be bathed then. She was good, though, and dried so fast since she hardly had any fur, just her "uggs" were wet!

Tigger, if Methos has no front claws, it is dangerous for him to go outside, unless maybe he can't possibly get out of your yard. He can't defend himself against roaming dogs or other cats or raccoons or whatever.

Awww ... this little sweetie looks like Xena used to!

We had to bathe Xena, 'cause we were bottle-feeding her, and little abandoned ferals like her sometimes have a lot of digestive difficulty during the switch from real cat milk to KMR, and they get diarrhea, and poop all over their nestboxes and themselves.

Then you gotta bathe 'em in the sink and use the hairdryer on them (can't let teeny-tinies air-dry, 'cause they get too cold.) Sometimes you can get away with just sponging off the hindquarters, but if they've rolled in kittenpoo, they need a whole bath.

Now, nine months later, Xena still has to come in and "supervise" whenever I turn that hair dryer on. She sits attentively, a few feet away, and waits for me to "blast" her with hot air, which she'll bat at, while she runs away.

Then she comes back for more.

Cats are insane. I'm just sayin' ...
