I don't know what's cuter - the duck or the tiny leaves!

That "soup" is called--surprise!--duckweed!

The plants don't get much bigger than a few millimeters, but they totally cover a pond in a blanket of emerald green.

Total cute overload! ^__^

Life is like a hurricane
here in Duckburg
Race cars, lasers, aeroplanes
It's a duck blur
Might solve a mystery
Or rewrite history!
Ducktales! Woo Hoo!
Everyday they're out there makin'
Ducktales! Woo Hoo!
Tales of daring, new, bad and good luck tales!
D-d-d-danger lurks behind you
There's a stranger out to find you
What to do just grab on to some
Ducktales! Woo Hoo!
Everyday they're out there makin'
Ducktales! Woo Hoo!
Tales of daring, new, bad and good
Ducktales! Woo Hoo!
Not pony tales or cotton tales, no
Ducktales! Woo Hoo!

I tried to keep track of how many hard-boiled eggs they ordered. I think it ended up being close to two dozen.

What a cute little duckie! Great picture.

For reasons I can't entirely explain, I'm getting an "I ate too moishe" vibe from this picture... Maybe because his leettle head is pulled back? Oh gosh darn it, I suppose I'll have to sit here and look at it until I figure it out...

Hey Theo! Get out that standing bass & join me!

Listen to this song! http://www.songsforteaching.com/fosterbrown/ducksong.htm

Waddle, Waddle, Quack, Quack
Waddle, Waddle, Quack, Quack
Waddle, Waddle, Quack, Quack
There’s never any water on a ducks back.

To look at a duck, there are some things you will see.
They have webbed feet, and a bill for a beak.
The boys are colorful – the girls are drab,
They fly to the south when the weather turns bad.

Waddle, Waddle, Quack, Quack
Waddle, Waddle, Quack, Quack
Waddle, Waddle, Quack, Quack
There’s never any water on a ducks back.

There’s birds who feed on the shallow ponds.
We call them dabbling ducks.
Their heads go down and their tails go up,
Eating roots and bugs in the marshy muck.

Waddle, Waddle, Quack, Quack
Waddle, Waddle, Quack, Quack
Waddle, Waddle, Quack, Quack
There’s never any water on a ducks back.

There’s the kind of birds we call diving ducks,
They dive for fish to eat.
They swim underwater with their wings and feet,
Then pop up with a fishy treat.

Yep, the green stuff is duckweed. It makes really good fish food, actually. I wonder if ducks eat it too?

AWWWWWWWW fuzzy duckitude.

 |  Jan 28, 2007 at 01:53 AM

If the duckweed leaves are that tiny in comparison to a little baby duckling, imagine how small they are compared to a full-size duck! (And I wonder if they're edible for humans, and, if so, what they taste like.)

Oh, and bad joke of the night:
Why does a little baby duckling walk softly?
Because he can't walk hardly!
(hint; it's funnier if you know where a comma ought to go.)

 |  Jan 28, 2007 at 02:12 AM

And check this out!

From the Wikipedia article on duckweed:

"These plants are very simple, lacking a stem or leaves, but consisting of a small blade-like structure floating on or just under the water surface, with or without simple rootlets."

ROOTLETS!
