So sad to hear he's gone, he always showed his passion and love for animals, he will be dearly missed.
a wallaby, a wallaby
a wallaby, a wallaby
in the Outback, the quiet Outback, we say goodbye to Steve
in the Outback, the beautiful Outback, we say goodbye to Steve
oooo oh oooo oh....
(hope someone else remembers that song besides me)
RIP Steve, and hugs and purrs and Crikeys to his family
Goodbye Steve-O. You will be greatly missed.
:(
Loved you, Steve. Rest in peace.
Remeber that episode when Steve was reminiscing about his doggy Suzy??? I think her name was Suzy...Anyway, Steve missed her so bad, he was crying. Touched my heart...
How appropriate for the wallaby and how sad for the loss of Steve. I am sure Steve is up in Heaven thanking God for all of the wonderful animals.
You will be greatly missed, Steve.
Just when I thought I had the tears under control...then I looked at the "Goodbye Steve" picture.
I think that's the Wimoway song, Teughcats. Nice song.
hi his dog was called Sui. He missed her badly, nice to know they are together again, and with his mum, and mary and harriet too. nice pic of the wallaby waving goodbye :'( I've got the last pic of steve waving as he set off on his boat Croc One on friday. He looks so happy + fulfilled, and his friend said he was very happy. Bye Steve xxx
You know, us aussies are required by law to own at least one wallaby in their backyard. Uh huh, yep, it's true, we use them to keep the lawns neat.
BTW, my fave crikey moment was when he met the orang in Borneo. They felled in love, was adorabubble.
Oh, he had an orang on with Larry King too! It was really cute, except Larry freaked a little when she went right over & grabbed his arm. I would have been so happy!
Great pics Brad, esp. of the Tasmanian Devil, I wonder how long it took to get him while he was still. I have an action photo of one, it never stopped. Crazy! My doggie runs around like that sometimes!
I felt just awful when I heard of Steve's death. I've been a fan for years.
But how nice to go doing something you love, even if it was way too soon. I will miss seeing his energy and enthusiasm for the creatures of this world on Animal Planet.
I loved it when he was crawling around in a rainforest--Brazil? I think--and he g-e-n-t-l-y picks up this chameleon that's probably half the length of his pinky-finger. On the same show, he spent several minutes catching grasshoppers and feeding them to a big chameleon on a branch, and you could see such sheer, unadulterated, childlike joy on his face as this big lizard nabbed the bugs with its tongue.
But the few moments when he cried always stuck with me the most. Losing Sui, or the time he was in India and he was weeping over an orphaned baby elephant. I was a wreck when I saw him reduced to tears like that...

I love Steve! Nothing better than a completely insane animal lover. He will be sorely missed.
It looks like the wallaby is adjusting its dress gloves. Getting ready for a party in Steve's honor?
Ooh! Ooh! What about when he got bitten on the nose by the frilled neck lizard? Classic
One of my favorite shows was the one where he was out on location and Terri went into labour with Bindi and he was all "Crikey, where's my keys?" and driving like a mad man back into town. They did some filming in Labour and Delivery and it was so cute to see him nearly out of his depth for once.
My heart goes out to his family, especially Bob, because he didn't get as much time with his Da as Terri and Bindi did.
so sad over the loss of the Crocodile Hunter.
i love your photo tributes.
the outpouring of love shows who are the real heroes in our world.
We'll miss you, Steve! So much...
Way. Too. Cute.
Love the splayed fingers. And the bottom-heavy body...
If there is a separate heaven for the animal kingdom, Steve is there.
Wallabies walla-bobble, but they don't fall down.
Meg, to further this lovely tribute, may we please have a platypus next? Please? Or an echidna?
Awwwwww. Mr. Wonderful McWallaby. Sech a Qte little hand.
This is all very very emotional.
ECHIDNA ECHIDNA! They have built-in snorglers!
Sui and Steve are walking across the rainbow bridge together.
"Watch me wallabys feed, mate
Watch me wallabys feed, They're a dangerous breed, mate
So watch me wallaby's feed Altogether now!
CHORUS: Tie me kangaroo down, sport Tie me kangaroo down..."
Fine! You managed to make me cry again, happy now?
*hugs wallaby*
*pouts*
I really hope animals have souls and Steve has access to playing with them in the afterlife they're in. I dont believe in the afterlife, but I'm willing to, for Steve. :)
Oh...that made me cry.
R.I.P. Steve.
thank you steve, for all that you've done for conservation and education, and how you've helped us all get a little closer to the beauty of the natural world.
rest in peace, and have fun with the gators up there at the bridge.
Aubrey - I wasn't going to mention it, but since you brought it up...
"Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred,
Tan me hide when I'm dead...
So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde,
And that's it hanging in the shed
Althogether Now..!"
I have a feeling that in about twenty years we'll see his son and/or daughter ... Out there doing much of the same thing their dad loved sooo much ...
Favorite 'Croc Hunter' moment. Steve and his assistants (Terry included) had just wrestled a croc to (moderate) submission. He stood up exhausted, and as this was a new croc and its vital statistics had to be noted, it's sex had to be determined.
So Steve said 'Sex?' And all the others answered 'Not right now.'
Well, TJ, you just did-geridoo what was expected of you!
Aubrey - so long as I don't get accused of (rolf) harrisment...
Ummm...is this wallaby waving or making a very rude two-handed gesture? lol
That 'roo isn't saying goodbye. Its saying in 5 more seconds I'm going to come over there and kick your ass! Or maybe that was bite your nose.....
High-five, Mr. Roo, for a job well done!
I loved everything Steve did, but one of my faves were the panther chameleons.
"Ooo, ur gettin' cranky now. You gonna fight me with your oven mitts?"
Yes, pure childlike joy. Stalking elephants, trying so hard NOT to be too noisy, but in the end he couldn't help himself...it's what made him so watchable.
goddammit CO made me cry at work.
*heart breaks* We'll all miss you, Steve!
i second that, elena!
it's so sad that he had to go so soon. but the fact that so many people know and care that he's gone almost makes up for it. i, too, am glad he went doing something he loved, and not in a mundane way. i've no doubt that someday we'll see bindi or bob back out there with the crocs.
One of the cutest stories I've ever heard about him involved a wild momma orangutan who let him play with her baby. Orangutans normally HATE having people come too close to their liddle 'uns, but she wasn't the least bit scared of him; she somehow knew she could trust him.
He'll be missed. I hope wherever he is now, there are lots and lots of crocodiles for him to wrestle with.
*sniff* Good job Meg, your tribute to Steve Irwin is beautiful. Thank you.
AUUUGH, Aub and TJ. I will be singing that for WEEKS!!!
Actually, thanks, rather than augh. It's an awesome little ditty, and I will be quite happy to sing it for weeks! :)
and a little digeri-el-do ya!
Thank you, Meg. Your tribute is very moving (the wallaby made me cry again). Mr Irwin will be deeply missed.
Cute wallaby or whatever he is. Very appropriate. I didn't watch Steve much but I really enjoyed when I did get to see his shows. He obviously will be very missed. Tragic what happened. :(
I was shocked and so sad to see on the internet Sunday that he had died. I still can't believe it. My prayers are with his family and his poor little children how sad they are so young. At least they will have his films to remember him by. So very very sorry he is gone now.
Thank you, Steve, on behalf of all the animals...He is with his Chili dog, as he said when Chili died "I'll see you again my Chili dog!"
Thank you for all your joy & now you touch our hearts again...
That made me cry, it's so sweet.
