A famous tongue

People, this is Lucy, the famous hamster of HamsterTracker fame. Her tongue just needs an extreme close-up for your viewing pleasure. Yes, it might be a little strange to look so closely at a hamster tongue, but, well, you really should check it out.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 12:53 PM

OMG the tounge is cute but I looove its teeny tiny little hands!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 12:55 PM

This is SO goofy!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 12:56 PM

I love the little hands too. So small and pink. It looks like she's inquiring about a mid-day snack or something. "say you wouldn't happen to have any carrots in that tupperware over there, would you?"

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 12:57 PM

EEEE! Cute village, Population 1. Mayor, Lucy Z. Hamster.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 12:58 PM

Lucy is making an awfully funny face. I didn't know hamsters could look like that. Was she in the middle of a sneeze?

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:00 PM

No idea which is cuter- The teeny tongue, the petite paws, or the nose! Has anyone bothered to look at the nose?

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:01 PM

The nose. Definitely the nose.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:02 PM

Little Lucy needs some weensie White Strips for those bottom chompers!

Even so, I wanna snorgle that fuzzy little nose.

Lucy looks a lil hungry after so much running. I'm definitely scared.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:05 PM

I can't think of anything to say other than "wow."

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:06 PM

i look at the hamstertracker site every day to catch the ever present adorableness that is lucy the hammie. i lurve her! awwww, the tongue! the tongue!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:10 PM

Teh nose FTW!!!

Actually the overall pic with the goofy expression is the cutest. But the nose is cuter than the tongue.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:10 PM

Even her nose is fuzzy! Eep!!! To cute!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:10 PM

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:22 PM

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:23 PM

Anybody notice that Cute Overlord (with an "R") seems to be snowed in, last couple of days?

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:24 PM

OMG. SO CUTE! She looks like Stuart Little! She looks like she's smiling!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:28 PM

Oh my goodness, Lucy looks just like Jimmie Durante!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:36 PM

Joe Mama - I think she has a couple kernels of corn i her mouth, those don't look like teeth to me.

My favorite part is her little paw against the clear plastic. What a cutie!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:47 PM

Rinky, some rodents are cute. Not all of us are breedist(racist againts certain breeds) and we like to see cute everything!

If you look closely in the closeup... you can see the bar looks wet below it's mouth. Drooling? Maybe nibbling her way out?

If I had a hammie,
I'd feed it in the morning,
I'd feed it in the evening,
Fresh food and not canned,
I'd keep the hammie in a cage and near,
I'd let the hammie be roaming,
It's a hammie I'd love as well
As her brothers and her sisters,
All over this land.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:52 PM

The 'corn' is actually Lucy's front teeth, the white 'teeth' is her gum!
Her right paw (for us the one on the left) is in close-up on her HamsterTracker.com website!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:54 PM

Mathijs - YOU ROCK! Love your site!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 01:58 PM

Lucy has this "Stuart Little" thing going on. She's absolutely adorable!!!!!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 02:11 PM

I think extreme close-up hamsters are kind of scary. Yeesh, the toofs. Perhaps her hand should hold a wee little toofbrush? But the 'normal' pic.. definitely cute.. in a rodent sort of way ;)

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 02:19 PM

ohnonichole, I had the exact same thought. That is a Jimmy Durante schnozzle fer sure. And Lucy looks as though she's had one too many ... reeling against the bars ... wha? last call? I just got here!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 02:25 PM

EW! It looks like slime!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 02:44 PM

HAMSTER LIPS. holygod.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 02:55 PM

That's funny

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 02:58 PM

hammie. cute. funny. sweet.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 03:07 PM

Oh I just love Lucy's website - she's sooooooo cute! The tiny little personal cheeseburger that Mathijs made for Lucy was the best! You rock Mathijs! I wish all animal companions were treated this well.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 03:10 PM

ahhh!! het away the tongues slimy

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 03:10 PM

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 03:23 PM

OMG look at that little face and wow never seen a tougue like that

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 03:43 PM

Question... why does it frequently look like hamsters are in the middle of a break out? http://mfrost.typepad.com/cute_overload/2005/12/oh_mah.html

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 03:52 PM

I'm such a sucker for wee little rodent hands! And that adorable psycho grin!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 04:01 PM

Haven't we already seen Lucy's tongue close up? ...Oh wait, that was her paw...

A thinker
 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 04:26 PM

what is the yellow thing in its mouth?

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 04:30 PM

Man, I love rodent tongues. Every once in a while I catch my gerbils stretching and yawning - so much condensed cute it could be developed as a particularly fiendish military weapon!

For the record, the last time I took them to the vet I was informed that the dark yellow color is the proper, healthy color for a gerbil's teeth, which I'm assuming applies to hamsters as well. So no, Lucy doesn't need a toothbrush! Cute as that would be.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 04:38 PM

I love it when my ratties grab my finger with their wittle pink hands and lick my finger. I just wuf wittle wodents!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 04:54 PM

What a face!! Lucy is the best. You go, van der Paauw!!

A Fine Morsel
 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 05:03 PM

When I first looked at this picture I thought I was seeing a little rat. It still looks rat-like to me. But I guess I am wrong.

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 06:28 PM

How could anyone think he's not cute!? (Mouse, not hampster!) He looks like he's smiling!! ^_^

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 06:42 PM

She looks overcome with glee! I laughed when I first saw the picture :)

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 06:53 PM

Actually, that yellow thing in her mouth appears to be the yellow bar on the cage that she is chewing on. Cute!

 |  Jul 27, 2006 at 08:16 PM

Or is she chewing on it? Does it look like she is? Maybe it is her teeth or a corn kernel. Someone tell us what it is!
