Rufus stops by for a bite

ROOFEES is back. While his Mom and Pop were out on a dinner date, Rufus got a little "mungry" ('hungry' in Mongrelspeak) and decided to do some chomping on his babysitter—Van Gogh-style. It was a delightful evening.

FIRST COMMENT!! I can't believe my luck.

EVERYONE--as we love the Cuteness of the Universe, at this very moment thousands of baby Harp seals are being slaughtered. Please say a little prayer for these anerable, prosh, warm fuzzies who will suffer. And don't buy Canadian sea food until it never happens again. Thanks.

Oh--what a look!!

Can someone tell me what "anerable" means? I understand "prosh" "squee" and all the other terms, but this one has me stumped. Regards,L.

L. Bendavid,

anerable = adorable

is "cutespeak". you don't have to understand it, just live it...

jaypo--with all due respect, some northern Canadian communities [mainly indigenous Inuit] depend on year-round fishing and hunting for their livelihood, including seal. They wouldn't survive if it weren't for the seal hunt.

Seals are killed quickly and humanely as possible.

There is a very large seal population which in turn depletes the cod population, which is another source of livelihood. Cull helps keep it under control.

yes, seals are cute. but it doesn't make it wrong to kill them.

Okay, Roofies cute, big pic of ear is kinda gross. It's not that it's not...clean...just that it's, well, gross.
PS: I'm on the fence about seal hunting, but coming from a rural background (picture twanging banjos)I can say that many species need to be culled or they either wreak havoc on the environment or starve in inclement weather. I don't think seal hunting is a sport, but a way of life and sustenance.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:21 PM

This is the best Rufus pic yet! All personality.

(and Jaypo -- dead baby seals? WTF? I know I get off-topic a lot, but that's just beyond all reaching. Feel free to be vegetarian tonight... meanwhile, look, it's Roufese!)

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:21 PM

A Thinker - thank you.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:27 PM

Wow, what timing!

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:32 PM

A thinker--Thanks for your comments. I always appreciate alternative points of view.

Theo--no veggie.

Roofee rules the page!! not me.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:37 PM

Now I know I'm biased, because I am first and foremost a dog person. But I really think Rufus is one of the most beautiful animals I have ever seen in my entire life. What gorgeous, soulful eyes and such a silky soft smooth coat. This is perfection, people. Siiiiiigh......

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:41 PM

Jeez, is there no limit to that dog's cuteness? Look at the light-hearted mischief in those eyes. Makes me all ticklish on the inside!

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:44 PM

While I lead a pathetic, dogless, small-apartment life, some people get to babysit Rufus. There is no justice in this world.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:46 PM

And quel poseur! He knows exactly what he's doing to us, wrapped around his little paw. A very knowing pup!

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:48 PM

Looks like things got a little too frisky ;P

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:51 PM

Nice pic of Rufus on CU on the computer in the background!

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 04:58 PM

It is time for you to creat a Rufus category on the left!

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 05:30 PM

From another Canadian:

No one is protesting native peoples who need to kill seals to survive. Seriously, do a little research on Google. Jaypo is absolutely right that we ought to do something, though I'm not sure his/her comment was relevant here. This is not an issue of sustenance or culling overpopulated animals in any sense, and it should not go on as it does.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 05:37 PM

okay - instead of praying (haha) why don't you get out there and do something about the seals being slaughtered in such a disgusting manner - the least you could do is sign a petition if it's really something that is bothering you.

aaaaanyway, rufus is looking quite cute, as usual :) hee hee

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 05:45 PM

Rufie baby knows how to be FIERCE for the camera. No dead eyes on him!

Even Janice Dickinson would have to give him his props.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 05:50 PM

who doesn't want to nibbled on by an eetalian lovEr?

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 05:54 PM

Puhleeeeeze, someone tell me what kind of dog that is! I want one.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 06:03 PM

Jaypo, not everything in reality is as we would like it. There are things that have to be done to keep civilization civilized. Cute provides a escape from the harsher realities of this world. People who complain about reality probily do not live in much of one.-Woods Walker

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 06:11 PM

Rufus is my BOYFRIEND!!!!!!

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 06:16 PM

Roofies! Oh how I lurve you, Roofies. You may nibble on my ear any time. *Rrrrrrr...hehehe*

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 06:21 PM

Cute puppy :)

And while since we're on the issue, the seal hunt makes me ashamed to be canadian :(

Clubbing over the head is not humane, any way you look at it. And if the fish are low in humber, its cause of humans screwing up the balance of the environment in the first place. Two wrongs never make a right. People make me sick sometimes.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 06:25 PM

Doggy piercings ROCK!

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 06:34 PM

I'd just like to say that the seal hunt is a lot more complicated than people like to think it is. It's like any controversial topic: it requires serious discussion and research. A simple google doesn't cut it for research (I saw it on the internet so it must be true!) and I don't think the comments on cuteoverload.com are the place for discussion. I come here to NOT think about complicated issues for five minutes.

More on topic, this doggie is anerable! Like a smaller, cuter Mike Tyson!

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 06:38 PM

"Like a smaller, cuter Mike Tyson!"

LOL!... soooo... not actually very much like Mike Tyson hardly at all, then, there, eh?

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 06:41 PM

Theo - Heh, touche.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 06:43 PM

Hey! That's my ear getting chomped, people! I'm glad you're all having a splendid time while I'm having major ear reconstruction surgery.

By the way, how about a few props for the Wifey, who took the picture? Such composition...

Finally, "Seal People," please just drop it. There are far better places to have such a debate where you might actually be able to make an impact. Just bask in the glow of Rufusian goodness.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 07:07 PM

Hey now, I got nuttin but luv here. See above:

I also like how Rufus does the black nail-polish thing. Very dour, great ironic gesture there -- but check it out, you missed one, dawg.

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 07:11 PM

That's ***hot***

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 07:43 PM

Rufus, will you marry me?

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 07:48 PM

I love Rufus! But the little tomato soup dog is cuter I think. We need more photos of him

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 07:50 PM

Thank you, Sparkster!

Italian Greyhounds make great pets if you can figure out how to housebreak the little things.

I have a 12-year-old IG named Bambi.

(psst, theo, it's not black nail polish, he really has some black toenails and some white toenails.)

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 08:14 PM

I this what he is? An Italian greyhound? I suppose he's cute, but I gotta go with floppy-eared dogs as THE cutest!!

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 08:43 PM

Ouch! does not look like fun...

 |  Mar 29, 2006 at 09:02 PM
